Cedar Grange Residential and Nursing Home - Sanctuary Care

Yesterday, we paused to remember the bravery and sacrifice of so many. Today, we'd like to share the inspiring story of one of our own heroes - Dorothy, fondly known as Dot, a cherished resident at Cedar Grange Residential and Nursing Home in Launceston.

Born in December 1922, Dot is a spritely 102 years young. In 1943, at just 20 years old, she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), leaving her home in Essex for London Paddington during an air raid. Bombs were falling, shops ablaze, yet Dot pressed on with courage and determination.
Stationed at a large military camp, Dot recalls the camaraderie: "It was like one big family." Even amidst wartime, there were moments of joy, trips to the pub, dancing, and the occasional visit to the 'pictures'.

After the war, Dot worked in the Printing Room, meticulously cataloguing bombs, tanks, and guns. She left the Army in August 1946, having served for more than three years.

What a truly remarkable woman. A living reminder of resilience, service, and the human spirit. This week, we honour Dot and all who gave so much.
