we believe a good strong foundation is vital to creating a good looking driveway that lasts for years. Driveways that suffer from holes and sinking have not had the correct amount of sub base construction to hold it up.
We always dig out our driveways out to a depth of about 14 inches, depending on ground conditions. You will have a minimum of 10-12 inches of stone, compacted with a 5 Ton whacker, followed by a 2 inch layer of sand compacted with a 2 Ton whacker under your driveway, enough to support a 5 Ton load. Should you want to store a caravan or boat then we go deeper!

A 1 Ton whacker is then used to fill in the gaps between your blocks or cobbles with fine sand.

Don't believe those who say a 2 inch layer of concrete will stop a drive from sinking or weeds from growing- if the ground under the concrete is not solid, the concrete will crack and your driveway will sink.
