Time is rarely on one's side, never more so than when a mature effect of shrubs and trees is required in an open garden or landscape.

Set in the attractive setting of a walled garden at Wykeham Abbey, visitors to Wykeham Mature Plants can explore a nursery which combines innovation with traditional horticultural skills to create an effect of maturity from trees, shrubs, hedging and conifers of up to 20 years old.

Wykeham Mature Plants offers the ideal solution for transforming an open space, offering customers the opportunity to buy time and the immediate effect that professional and careful long-term production brings.

Buying direct from the 100+ acre production nursery offers customers a wide choice of nursery-fresh, top quality plants, available in larger sizes than are normally available. Tens of thousands of container-grown plants, from ground-cover to semi-mature trees up to 6 metres high, are immediately available throughout the year to choose from. For traditional, seasonal choice for planting between November and March, thousands more plants are available from the extensive field nurseries.

Yorkshire-grown and hardy, Wykeham stock is robust and suited to northern gardens. The nursery is Plant Healthy certified, giving you the peace of mind of knowing that the high quality plants are free from imported pests and diseases.

Wykeham Mature Plants have a wide range of shrubs selected for all year round interest and all produced in larger than normal sizes to create an effect of maturity in an instant. Screening plants are another speciality, whether tall hedging, evergreen trees, or options that have been pruned or trained above a 6ft clear stem to provide privacy above a fence or wall.

A range of ornamental conifers is available, together with conifer material suitable for screening and/or large hedging purposes in sizes up to five metres tall. A popular range of pre trimmed hedges, including Laurel, Box, Beech, Hornbeam, Privet, Holly, Thorn and Yew, give the appearance of an established hedge after planting. There is also a range of ornamental shrubs suitable for more informal and flowering hedges and screens.

To support the quality stock production, design and planting services are available to both private and commercial clients. Site visits are available to help you plan your project and to help you select the best plants for the conditions on your site.

Set in the Vale of Pickering, the nursery is located on the Dawnay Estate at Wykeham. The container units are situated within the Estate walled gardens adjacent to the main house, and are open Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 4.30pm - you are welcome to walk round for inspiration but, for help or advice, we recommend that you phone ahead to book an appointment to make sure that someone is available to help you.
