RSS feeds and press release are also the effective ways for link building.

I would like to add:

Link bait, create content people would want to link to. I also approach webmasters who run similar sites to my own, or have relevant pages of content. Relevant links from a site with a high pagerank goes a long way in the eyes of google.

I currently pay someone to write 2 article submissions a month. Quite happy with the work she has done, but it is getting to the stage now when everything that could be written has been written, I'm not even sure who reads it or why come to that Anyway the question is what is the difference between an article submission and a press release and is one better than the other?

Thanks,
Barney

The Panda update seems to have hit content scrapers, affiliate sites, general duplicate or poor quality content.

If your site falls into any of these categories, then address the issue. Revise any linking or SEO strategies, if you've willingly linked to bad neighbourhoods, then these could be a reason.

Any quick fixes like "submit to 5000 directories for $30" will have hurt people as well. Professionalism and quality now finally outweigh spam and a quick buck

I am not sure that one is better but for PRs you need to have a catch that makes it worthy of a PR which is not always easy - a skill like any other?

However you will get links from different sites which is always useful and if you are lucky some will be syndicated which is not a bad thing either. I got a radio interview from my first Dubai Wills PR.

Over the years I have had quite a few articles syndicated which does pay off. I use to try and do it all myself, but it always ended up with sleepless nights and driving me round the twist. Have been interviewed by the Guardian and asked to do a few makeover television shows, however I always decline them as they usually want you to work for free for a week, but they will give you a website link lol...

Thanks,
Barney
