As with writing excellent web content -its not just finding the right words - its putting them in the right order as well....

Since I put up my last post I have been keeping an eye on the kind of work I have been getting from peopleperhour, which is an online website for freelance writers, designers and developers. The amount of jobs coming through for article submission did slow down slightly for a few weeks, but now its back to normal. So I think the directories will always be an outlet for seo to some degree. But the goalposts have changed. A good seo should not give them as much weight as perhaps they did before panda.

Personally I think it is going to die out slowly much like link building it will become less important but still have a role to play, I think social networking and media is going to become the front line for SEO

Thanks,

Writing articles and press releases is one thing but the real problem here is how much value there is in it.
Many submission sites have a decent PR but your article does not get the credit from that, the actual pages that the articles are on, are generally PR0, also unless you pay heavily, your articles will be full of other peoples links and there could be adverts all over the same page devaluing the links.

It is good source of marketing but really depends upon search engine like google panda hit article marketing mainly. So i think it is useful marketing technique until you spam or write poor quality contents....

As most other people have said, I don't think article marketing will die out.

I do, however, think it will evolve and we'll see a distinct decrease in the number of poor quality articles out there and a rise in the overall quality of content.

If the articles that are submitted are genuinely providing assistance, I can't see why article marketing would - or even, could - die out and my guess is it will simply change over time, just as most other aspects of SEO have.

I agree - I think article sites will either drop out of the internet or improve, squidoo is a great example which hasn't been affected by the recent changes.

It combines articles with useful videos / images and other resources etc.

I can see it getting a lot tougher to submit and get listed and much more use being made of services such as copyscape to ensure content in unique at least at the point of submission.

your articles will be full of other peoples links and there could be adverts all over the same page devaluing the links.

I agree but the beauty is that its free and there are lots of places to submit.

100 article sent to 100 different sites = 10,000 links
1,000 articles sent to 1,000 sites = 1,000,000 links

that sort of makes up for the ads and low value.

But this is why Google has acted to clean the area up.

Now you need good original articles to get the benefit.

shock the article directories into filtering out low quality spam articles that are simply the same article re written 10 times over.

If you think about it that is not easy at all.

Say you have 2 million articles in a database you need to find a way of comparing several 1,000 new articles a day to the entire database not just exact match but by level of commonality and articles can be heavily spinned.

Its also about having interesting content not just getting rid of similar stuff.
