Hey I have just got into ecommerce and I am building my website, I want to make sure I have a good search engine ranking, I have submitted my site to the big search engines etc but now I think I have to create links to my site or something? this all baffles me at the moment can anyone help me get a footing? I am going to read up on this through the internet but i was hoping to actually get some feedback off a person who can explain this to me. thanks
Hi there. It sounds as if you are asking about back links to your site? This is one of the important things that you would do after you've optimized your site and submitted to search engines and directories etc. Back linking is easy for the most part, its the amount you need to do that makes it tough. A back link is a link on another site that points back to yours. There are many ways you could do this as well, through writing articles (you would be able to link in the resource box), Blog posts and comments, forum signatures. All you need to do is make sure the link is anchored to your chosen keyword, and that where ever you have the link posted, that the site its on is relevant to your keywords and the business you do. I would also recommend that you steer clear from link farms. Many people say that they can boost page rank for you by placing your links on their pages, but this ends up being sites that have nothing but links on a page that has no other content. Hope this helps. ![]() Thanks, Dreamraven
Hi, I am just a student but what I have learnt from my experiences 'content is the KING,in terms of search engines' so,what I suggest you is writing effective articles and from that article give a link to your website. I think this will work for your website. Have a nice day. ![]()
Hi Peter, All of the suggestions mentioned above are absolutely right. But as you said that you are building your website, do make sure the 'onsite Seo' for your pages. Make your website as friendly and convenient to users as you can. Yes, content is king, make the word length of home page about 400 to 450 words and make sure its quality and usefulness. Place the keywords naturally and reasonably. Have your keywords in the meta tags. Don't to forget to have your brand name in the home page title along with the keywords, as major search engines appreciate it. These are the things that various search engines do count while ranking your site in SERPS. I hope I have helped. Good Luck! Bliss Felton
Hi, I am agreeing with the points made by Bliss Felton ![]() What I suggested (article submission) is free of cost, and he can do it himself because he knew it well that the website is on which topic so that he can add more content not only to his website bur also in the web world. Also I am supporting the points made in the previous post like placing right keywords at the right place..... ![]()

“Hi, I am agreeing with the points made by Bliss Felton but what I got the situation is Peter is the website developer thus It is not necessary that he must be aware about 'Onsite SEO'. What I suggested (article submission) is free of cost, and he can do it himself because he knew it well that the website is on which topic so that he can add more content not only to his website bur also in the web world.” Thanks Jessica, but I feel after various algorithmic jerks, the SEO and web development now go parallel. The sites hurt by Pandas, the thing that was common in most of them was the poor onsite SEO. If one is not aware of the term like 'onsite SEO', he is more than welcome. ![]() Yes, after confirming the your site quality, you MUST develop a strong link building strategy like article submission, free submission, book marking and lot of others, as it contributes a lot towards crafting your PR and ranking in SERPs. For getting good ranking in search engine. you need to perform on-page and off-page optimization on your website. If your website is well optimize both for on page and off page SEO, you generally get higher search engine rankings, which Leeds to traffic for you. It is important to do the SEO right way before you spent to much time wonder and doing different kind of things..... addyj672

Everyone is talking about it, and it seems like all are irritated about it. ![]() I searched it on the internet but did not get the points well. What I understand is many one-paged website lowers down in terms of page rank due to lack of content and pages. So what I figured out is if you have informative and effective content then only you can survive in the google SERPs. That's why I suggested about rich-content articles. And 'onsite SEO' is the basis of a good website.
“Hi, Please tell me what is panda? Google actually updates it quote regularly, most of the time with little fuss, but the Panda update was a particularly large one, and has caused wide spread controversy. Heres a link to googles own post about it: Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: High-quality sites algorithm goes global, incorporates user feedback Now the dust has settled, as long as you play by the rules, decent content, no ropey linking structure, then you should be fine.
