This is an interesting one, as the Google social network ramps up, businesses of all sizes are trying to set up accounts in their business name.

After all, we all do it in Facebook, so why not?

Well it seems Google doesn't want us to do it just yet, so if you have, be careful!

and here I was going on about people abusing the system. (feel kinda bad now). But if they are axing big company names, surely there is a tie in somewhere with the removal of other, not so well known ones?

I think Google should have known that companies would have wanted a slice of the action and catered for it from the get go, giving us the option of one or both? It would in all likelihood made them a tad more popular.

For social media marketing company page or fan page is very important. As social media networking site, Google need to allow these fan page to be created to promote social media marketing... Just like facebook.... Where company can create their company fan page....

Apparently they plan to roll out the business pages later this year.

You have to remember it's still not technically live, it's just a mammoth and ever growing beta project that is ironing out the lumps and bumps in its strategy.

Interesting +1 post ref the business names issue:

Two parts in that stood out to me.

He says that he is trying to make sure a positive tone gets set here. Like when a restaurant doesn't allow people who aren't wearing shirts to enter.

erm, I think that one says it all. I can believe that they want to keep everything as positive as possible, but I really don't think they know every name there is in the world. One might look suspicious, but turn out to be the name someone was born with.

He says he isn't using his legal name here

Interesting... So its not about your name per se.. its just if you spell it weirdly, or it seems obviously fake... Still points back to my original statement made earlier.

The comments made to the post seems more interesting to me though. It would seem that many already have had enormous issues with +1. It says a lot to those that actually want to join. It might even put them off entirely from joining.

An SEO firm (Plussems) already offering package deals on +1 button clicks. They offer up to 2000 clicks for $360. Wonder if Google will take +1 into account for search results when hundreds of firms like that will be emerged in coming days, weeks and months.

Yup, in the same way links got bought and abused, and they way they now have to try and make sense and filter links in their algo.

Its a tough one, the downside is whenever big G decides to help us all out and make it all fairer, it tries something else, gives the index a big shake, and we then all go into panic mode watching our keywords and rankings

I think we will see a few more shakes over the coming months...

The only thing (ok well there are actually two things..) that bothers me is that one day all heck is going to break loose. Sometimes I really think that the IM world is a slow wicked powder keg that could explode. The impact it will have on sites that are hard working legitimate and not out to make a quick buck are going to suffer from this as well.

If you think about it, and forgive the acid here, as soon as something new pops up, someone has learnt of a way to manipulate it, and then changes the new thing into something so repulsive, no one worth their salt in the business world will want to have something to do with it.

In the end, it could go two ways entirely. The keg explodes and IM is a thing of the past, completely. Where a link means nothing, reputation is nothing, and business turns into all out warfare between competition. Where you would be limited to the on page seo you do on your page and that's it.

Or, things can be policed so strictly that the only flavor of IM out there is white hat, and people have no other logical choice but to conform and do things the right way.

For now, many say that Plus 1 is a rep boost and nothing much else. I actually hope it stays that way. Because if it becomes valuable to linkbuilding or SMM, you may as well just go pour some petrol over the keg and light it all up.

It sure is an interesting time to be in the online marketing world.

I think the powder keg analogy is a good one.

You do have to smile though at some of the over hype and doomsayers. As always in this online marketing world, from links to social, take a blended approach and you will see much stabler results.

Put all your eggs in one basket, then make sure your backing the right horse

Be an interesting scenario though if the keg did explode and it all fell apart. That would make the playing field open for a new player, which everyone would dive onto in droves, with self badged gurus telling us to forget everything, this is now the way forward...

Wonder who the new player could be? Someone with very deep pockets, already has a worldwide resilient(ish) infrastructure set up, someone who has access and is deeply entrenched in the web stats business, and has one of the largest customer databases in the world.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Amazon search engine You heard it here first....

For every DVD you purchase, your chosen keyword rises another notch.

IM will never die. It's always going to be around in one form or another. Even if all we do is optimize a site and run adverts all day long. We will always have forums, so we will always be able to communicate with other IM's and business people.

The only thing I would like to see come to fruition from that powder keg exploding, is the end to spam, the end of searching for something only to find pages and pages filled with links and no information.

lol How does that work though, I'm sure you won't find dvd's for every niche we work on
