I am wondering if anyone has been tempted to do blackhat seo which is pretty much spam? Getting loads of spammy links to your site.. JamesK
Guess it depends if you are talking about a personal blog, or a commercial site that is your bread and butter. The recent Google Panda updates have seen large sites with dubious history catching up with them, these days it's all about quality. Quick fixes may work for a while, but big G will slap you with a penalty sooner or later, so if you're a commercial site, then IMO its not worth the risk. ![]()
Agreed. All these different schemes in the end only bring you tears. There is no such thing as a quick fix, no easy way to earn money online and while I'm at it, Santa Claus doesn't exist either ![]() ![]() This is a huge pet peeve of mine. Every new IM believes they can make a load of money from day one and it's simply not like that. I read through the Google TOS, I make sure that wherever the company I work for is linked to me, I am not up to anything shady. (besides that, its against my principles lol). A company's business and reputation is so closely interlinked that one wrong move can devastate it to the point of collapse. I guess all I can really say is how much do you think of your business, and are you willing to throw it all away for 5 minutes at the top ranking? Thanks, Dreamraven

AS I have virtually retired from IM after a very long time at it I can tell you that I still have my Blackhat on the hat stand, I know personally one of the most prolific blackhat merchants in the game this person earns a mint from some very high profile clients keeping their websites high up in the serps. Like it or not so called Blackhat methods work when done by people who live and breath it. Direct Digital Resources
Ok some nice insights to how people see it all. And at least someone posted that it ain't such a bad thing.. The way i see it, there are 4 different levels white hat grey hat black hat stupid hat White hat being clean, quality over quantity - but to be true i dont even think there is such as a thing as white hat anymore ( unless your facebook) white hat is meant to be natural, and natural being other people linking to your page, so the fact your doing the link building is then not white hat (in my eyes) Grey hat - this is a personal favourite of mine, its what I call smart blackhat, in theory its just blackhat but you make it look more white hat than it actually is. Its a lot quicker and easier than white hat but safer than blackhat Blackhat - this is what i call just spamming, you get automated tools that just go out and spread your link to everything it can find.. it has its perks Stupid hat - is this copying and pasting, anchor link spam, all that crap which is just pure stupid. i do the top three for different things, and in my eyes the Panda update has favoured the blackhat side of things. “Like it or not so called Blackhat methods work when done by people who live and breath it.” They certainly work, no question of that, but I think it's a risk if you apply it to a site that is your revenue generator. People do 100mph up and down the motorway everyday without getting caught. If my baby bus could do a 100, you can guarantee I'd get nicked. “Grey hat - this is a personal favourite of mine, its what I call smart blackhat ...in my eyes the Panda update has favoured the blackhat side of things.” I think Grey hat is a way of life. What was deemed safe last week, is this week deemed a little iffy and becomes grey hat. I would imagine most of us have followed some grey hat practices at some point. But I'd wouldn't knowingly use Blackhat, although I've no doubt research any site that's been going a while, it will throw up discrepancies. Don't understand the Panda favoring blackhat comment though, how do you mean, or can you give an example?
I can't give you an example but i've been talking to people in a small community i'm apart of (full of IM'ers) and some do pure white hat some do pure blackhat and some do both, and the general agreement among this community is that blackhat is back and that panda has messed up the rankings a lot. TBH its up to your own view on it, but I have been having a lot of fun with blackhat/greyhat. Its a lot cheaper/quicker/easier as long as you know what your doing... I mean there is even blackhat for Google Places, this has probably been the best thing that i have come across. At first i thought that i did it all wrong but then all of a sudden i come back my listings are number 1, I only had to wait for google to update and boom its up there. Again this is main for the people who know what they are doing when they are attempting blackhat. And the thing with doing blackhat with revenue, you never, never put all your eggs in the same basket with SEO and making money off google. Wether its just adense, ppc, affliate marketing. best practice is to spread your income stream across multiple avenues. ![]() JamesK
I would advise against ruining your friendship with the search engines because that can be detrimental to your website for ever! |
