Or whatever they call them lol...What do you think of them, you know the ones I'm on about, little man or woman pops up in the corner of the home page and starts waffling about the services you provide for around 30 seconds. Do they attract customers or put them off? Does having one put on your site effect rankings with the search engines? Just been sent some spam offering one for

Thanks,
Barney

Back in 2005, thought it was a quirky cool idea and nearly implemented it.

6 years on, done to death and really annoying

You'd be better having a you tube video of you, telling us about your old boiler, which you could do yourself, and have it embedded in to your site, rather than some slick stock animation or unbelievable looking corporatey person babbling on. I just think they look fake.

I have a program that has 3 versions of the Walk on actors and in different languages, They are generic so can be used for different types of businesses they can be effective, It depends on how much exposure the visitor has had ... New internet users are the obvious market that springs to mind..

I do not own them outright as I pay an annual membership fee to the organization I am with.. I am not giving out any links as Admin would have to kill me...

Whenever I come across them i usually click stop straight away, they can be slightly annoyed but I guess it depends on the visitor. I think a video whcih doesn't auto-play, is prominent enough for people to notice it but at the same time not in your face, works far better.

They are bad for keeping visitors on your page just the same as background music which cant be turned off.. Both if they either cant be turned off or are ennoying in general (which they are) then what other option do you have but to click off the website and go to another one thats not as ennoying

I've been to a good many game sites in my time, the tomb raider one was my favorite because they played in game music in the background (then..). I guess it depends on what you are going to have on the site. If someone only greets you for instance, and then is quite for the rest of the session, it can't be that much of a bad thing, can it?

they dont affect search rankings... but they might put off some users... cuz usually people are not expecting them and it can be a bit of a shock/scare suddenly someone from somewhere starts talking...
