As I said on the Twitter thread, posting good content helps.

It's just a marketing strategy. Social media now has become major platforms for businesses. But it also serves big purpose for SEO.

I find the whole facebook strategy fascinating as there are so many different opinions.

Me personally, I don't think the actual FB fan page actually achieves too much, likewise its Google counterpart. Most of the traffic we get comes from posts or links on peoples walls.

It's just yet another thing that will never get updated, like neglected blogs...

But having the like button on your site is powerful. We average about 600- 700 likes per month on our UK directory, so that maybe 700 exit points, but also means 700 people are advertising us on their walls.

Looking at our analytics, in the last 30 days, we had 1,697 visitors from Facebook, of which GA reports 82.26% as new visits.

So we get a lot more traffic from FB than we send. It may not be a huge amount of traffic compared to a search engine, but for the sake of having a line of code on your pages, it's worth it

That's some more statistics for me to learn of your FB business tactics, yeah! I'm coming in for you Steve, watch it. lol

If a few stats help, then go for it Similar story to the other thread we were talking on, but FB can actually work for business, just finding the technique that suits your own site.

Hi Guys,

I've seen a lot of businesses set up facebook page then display the social plugin on their site and have anything from dozens of 'likes' to hundreds and even thousands.

I was just wondering how effective is this in terms of creating long-term sustainable traffic and user base for a site?

And what level of repeat traffic do you get (daily visitor per 100 fan/follower)?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Automated software will more than likely get your account banned. And even if it isn't why would you want to create that many? You only need one per company/website. Unless there are some other uses for it that I would rather not mention here.

Sorry to be blunt, but I feel that software in particular is wrong. You can't rely on a piece of software to generate interest in a facebook page, or even get others to like your page simply because so many "others" like it.

Marketing is interaction. Between marketer and client /clientbase. basing a campaign on software shows that a marketer isn't capable of marketing a product and needs to lie to others to make a product seem popular.

My 2 cents. No offence was meant.

Do you think its worth it to buy some facebook friends for your business site in the beginning. I have noticed that my regular facebook friends aren't too into helping me out with "likes" and whatnot for my business page. Seems like I'd have to come up with some pictures of cute babies to get any likes, but that doesn't help my business. BTW, if anyone wants to be friends... I'm at Open Sky Acupuncture | Facebook

lol. For acupuncture, not really. Some forums do have areas where you can add your facebook page link, then you can get likes from people, while at the same time like them back. I just think its better not to lie to folks by buying likes. It makes them think a page is popular, while its really all just paid for.

A few things you can do though, is make sure your social network buttons are visible on your site, add it to your profiles in forums, and just get around the web and talk to people. You can also work on a unique app or canvas page (not sure how popular that still is) and link it to your business page for people to interact to. Red bull for instance had a "script" running where you couldn't read their page at all unless you liked them if people want to get to something, they will do what they need to. You just need to give them a reason

Dreamraven,

Thanks for the tips. I agree it's funny to be so concerned about my social networking for an acupuncture website, but you wouldn't believe how stiff the seo competition is

tmichaelchen

I didn't say not to be concerned. lol I was talking about the cute baby pics Facebook is an awesome way to get the word out that there is someone new in town, it just takes a while and a lot of effort (pleading lol) but eventually it all picks up.

Good luck though, I hope it works out and you have more fans than you can manage

Thanks,
