Missing Backlinks!

This question has probably been asked a million times on this forum, however I will ask anyway, according to Webmaster Tools my site has 87 back links, but I'm sure I should have a lot more than this, I know the links that I have been getting are not "No Follow" so i'm sure they should show up but they don't.

I have checked Back link Watch (not sure how accurate it is) and according to that it says I have a lot more.

According to Webmaster Tools I only have 7 Links from this forum, but I'm sure there should be a lot more than this.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks
Adam

Nice one fourth-monkey, Learn something new every day...

"Webmaster Tools does not always show 100% of the links that Google knows about, so just because a particular link doesn't appear in Webmaster Tools doesn't mean that Google doesn't know about that link, or that your site isn't "getting credit" for that link.... it doesn't show which links are most significant, and it can include links that are nofollowed or that don't pass PageRank.."

So the link reporting within Webmaster tools is a good as a chocolate teapot.

Must admit I assumed they actually did list by most significant or most important. If Open Site Explorer can, why can't google?

Aha cheers, probably should have checked there first, so looking at web master tools doesn't really give a very accurate indication of back links at all lol

For me, Webmaster Tools shows three times more links than Open Site Explorer and five times more linking root domains. Still it does not cover 100%? I am amazed.

I think you have to use Google webmaster tool to check your back link, this tool provide more back links than any other tools easily.

Right kind of backlinks can help propel a website from mediocrity to top rankings, turning an ordinary website into one that gets substantial traffic. When all of your SEO elements are in place, lots of traffic will lead to achieving your objectives, be it building a list or increased sales. Backlinks are easy to get once you know the techniques. The techniques are not difficult and once mastered the return on investment can be substantial. There are many places to look for backlinks and many websites are very accommodating to backlink seekers.

Well Kristen, that was a bit of a bump, and does read like a sales pitch! Don't tell me, you are the person to get those back links

Personally I am completely anti outsourcing links, and have yet to see anyone evidence of quality link building, that conforms to Google's policies and looks natural. Short term spikes are easy, but long term gains are made through genuine content, partnerships, and social media which spawn natural link building.

Don't get me wrong, I've dabbled a few times with a few SEO firms, from agencies to free lancers, and the quality has on every occasion being shocking. Any issues we've ever had with our linking profile has always been traced to outsourced lazy SEO. Agencies tend to be the worst

Link gaming is slowly becoming a thing of the past. It still works, but its effect is gradually diminishing as we move into the semantic web.
