Hello Friends,

my mothers computer is an HP MINI 1000 windows xp. her volume icon is gone and there is no sound. i have already tried to do a system restore and it didnt work, and i have done the run; services mcs. ; audio; start services/automatic thing and this is what it says,"the audio service started then stopped Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, Performance Logs and Alerts Service."What can i do ? is there something wrong? I do not know alot about computers so please help me.
I have gone to HP to install drivers and when I do that and restart it says :
_ExitErrior; This system does not support the driver you are trying to install
Can anyone suggest me please?

Thanks In Advance

Sounds tricky. Have you installed anything recently that coincides with the time the sound stopped working? Especially utility programs? If it controls the way XP or the laptop works, it may have something to do with it.

other than that, have you tried to roll over to previous driver versions? In the device manager, there is a way to do that, if you right click over your sound card/chip/components in the listing and click on properties. Also, you might want to see what motherboard updates there are for your laptop. Are the sound drivers bundled with HP? or do you have separate applications? I have Realtek on my PC and laptop, so If you do have a setup like that, it would be a good idea to see they have drivers.

If all else fails, or you feel that you would rather not play around with the laptop too much, I would recommend you take it to a trusted techy so they can have a look at it.

A minor update to the procedure as stated by Dreamraven in his last reply.

Go to device manager >> right click over your sound card/chip/components >> try allowing Windows to look for the missing driver, it would try to find one for a "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver". Once this is installed, the machine should allow you to install the audio drivers.

Depending how much you use this laptop, could you just restore back to a date it was working, at the risk of losing anything in between?

Hi Steve,

This does sound like a driver issue to me, when you visited the HP site for the laptop, did you grab the driver for the x86 version of Windows XP?
It could be that you download the wrong one.

If you're really stuck we can arrange a remote session to jump on the machine and take a look.

Well it has a simple solution, reinstall the sound drivers. Mostly it happens when you install a program, it overlaps a few files of the drivers and disables it.

In unison with Jack. If it still does not work please let us know.

Seeing that the OP has been banned, I don't really think that we will be getting any updates soon. Will close the thread for now.
