Offline Lead Generation Idea

Let me share my view.

Now, I don't have some big experience in this but did invest a lot of thoughts in how I will promote a product I'm about to create.

My idea is that instead of doing spamming cold calls, I'll first organize seminar in one area of my city. It should cover something related to what I'm selling but it must be completely educational, completely free and interesting to entrepreneurs. So I'll take all the expenses on myself but my goal is go get as much attendees as possible.
Then I'll promote seminar where I give knowledge for free and not selling anything. I'll call companies and invite them to join the seminar, stating clearly that it is free and educational. If they say yes, they'll get an email with details regarding the seminar. I may also send out mails to bunch of companies and invite them, offering them to call if they have any questions etc.

This way, I think that much much more people will agree to join and hear what I have to say. Now, presentation should be great so that they get to like me and recognize me as an expert in the field. After seminar, they can fill in simple form with info about their company and do they want to be called for some other event we may organize in future.
What I'm wanting to achieve is:
-People recognize me as an expert
-I now have a list of leads that clearly said "I'm interested in this topic".
-I have their permission to offer them something again. They asked me to!
-If they need something in area of my expertise, I'm guessing they gonna call me first as I already provide some value for them, for free.

After seminar is over, I could send everyone a post mail with link to the recorded video of the seminar in case they have missed it or want to watch it again. Also offer them to call and ask if they have any question. My point is to establish a connection with them.
After some time, I'll send another mail( or call them) and now I'll offer my product to them. Of course, I'll setup a great website for them with additional information etc.

So this is my plan for starting an offline marketing campaign that involves cold calls but use them in different way.
You opinions and suggestions are most welcome.

Welcome aboard Todic, Its an interesting post so have moved it to a new thread.

I think it's a good concept. I know someone who runs an SEO company, and he markets his business by doing SEO seminars. He knows that by passing on the information, and doing live demonstrations that he is proving his credibility and is seen as empowering his audience to go and do it themselves.

When in fact, he knows full well a number of them will either call him, or try it and appreciate the amount of time it take, and then call him, and he has gained a bunch of new clients

Great approach, if you are confident of your abilities, then why not.

It's a good idea but it will require a lot of time to prepare the presentations, give them, organise the event and so on.
How will you get the word out about the event? How many people do you expect to show up to the event?
Also, you have to think about how much your services and products cost - you need to make sure that the customer acquisition cost is ideally less than the cost of your services.
Nevertheless, it's a great way to build some awareness, brand, start the word of mouth and so on.
You might have to give regular presentations, one presentation is unlikely to make you an expert or to pay off. Think of maybe a monthly seminar...

I think selling your product to them after a few days will get them uninterested. I think you should do it during the seminar itself. As in not on a very large scale but maybe just the mention of your product and a stall out side. Or brochures talking about your product. some registrations or forms filled for those who maybe interested in buying it later.

I think not talking about the product at all and calling them later would be a little ineffective.

It maybe could be effective

Why do you guys think so? Give us a few thoughts on the subject.

good idea why not also do a seminar at your local business meetings as sometimes they struggle to find people to do a talk with more depth rather than just a sales pitch with little info
