Hiya!

I have recently completed my website but am overwhelmed with which company to engage for marketing. No doubt all of you have experienced this at some stage.

I'm considering Thompson Local, Yell, 192 etc online

In a nutshell I'm automating processes in business (in Access and Excel)

Any recommendations?

If you get me my first customer....I'll buy you dinner!!

Thanks for reading : )

I'm not familiar with either of them, so maybe other members here can give you better feedback. Have a look what each of them offer, and look at their track records, from other sites, not theirs (its too easy to create or own testimonials). Other than that, look at their ethics and how they would market a product. If ou can, email them and ask them directly that you are thinking of using them to market for you, and tell them (in short) about what your product is and let them come up with ideas or a quote at least. And then take it from there.

Good luck, I hope you get the best candidate for the task

Thanks,

Welcome aboard automater and congrats on the new business.

It sounds like you have a marketing budget which is great (most people don't!) but sounds like you don't have much of a marketing plan.

Before you hand over your hard earned cash, everyone you talk to will promise you xyz. Sit down and first decide what it is exactly you want to achieve. Sounds obvious, but there's no point in spending a

Conventional wisdom says DIY AdWords and DIY SEO will give you a better return on investment that the online versions of the paper directories re-invented as online directories.

There are a lot of free directories that you can list in, too just googe 'best free uk business directories'. And then ignore the sales call you get to 'upgrade' to premium.

Sorry to go on, but also, ask yourself who are your target customers and where do they search for get their solutions to the sort of problems you are planning to solve.

If maybe the processes you are automating are financial reporting processes, then what trade shows and publications do CFO's of medium size companies partake in? If they are operational processes, where do operations managers hang out, etc?

This site seems very genuine and a refreshing change to some I have come across. Thanks for the comprehensive response and congrats : )

I do have a marketing plan and feel that I need to engage the big guns to make it happen! Relying on natural search and SEO won't get me to where I need to be as there's too much serious competition out there..

Part of me wants to offer the work to a start up as they're more likely to give a more personal / quality service as their personal reputation depends on it..

Upside of going with the big guns is better technology and discounts as they have established relationships with Google etc

One thing's for sure; I'll be investigating thoroughly before I decide who to go with...

Cheers!

Keep up the great work : )

Very true, but as someone told me years ago, big guns normally have big shiny offices with lots of staff which means high overheads which need paying for

But best of luck and glad we've been of some help.
