It would seem that sorry wasn't good enough. (From sky news)

The UK food watchdog is considering whether legal action should be taken against companies at the centre of the scandal over horsemeat found in beef burgers.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said it would consult relevant local authorities and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) before making a decision to take action.

At least it's generated plenty of humour

But then how would you know the minced beef you're using is actually beef?

Don't start!! I'll confess to assuming my (non value) lean beef mince was 100% cow, but maybe it is time to start going to the butchers!

we always ask the local butcher to mince the chicken in front of us.

Chicken burgers - 2kg of chicken mince, 3 onions chopped very very finely, 4 potatoes grated raw, 4 cloves of garlic finely chopped, some fresh ginger minced, fresh mint or dried, finely chopped green chilli 4 large tsps (or less), mix well - make into patties, grill or fry. We freeze them after having made many quality tastings. My sister sometimes adds nachos or cornflakes if not freezing.

Mmm, like sound of that. Made plenty of Turkey burgers, always go down the storm at BBQ's and make a change from Beef. Pork burgers are popular as well. Similar recipe, bit of chilli for some spice, garlic, herbs but I've never added potatoes, so shall try that. Sometimes I chuck some mozzarella into the mix, just to add a few extra calories

Tesco's is a international business known world wide, it suprises me that they think that they could get away with putting horse meat in a (BEEF) burger

Trouble is with any kind of food production, you have no idea whats in the final product. The only way to be sure is to either rear and kill the meat yourself and grow your own fruit and veg. Foods that are labeled as free range or organic have been known to mislead consumers into paying premium prices for not so premium food, chicken have been known to have been taken out of the shed, given a square metre of land to roam on and reclassified as being free range. Then you get free range organic extra large eggs! As a kid we had both ducks and chickens none of them ever popped out extra large eggs. Any kind of mass food production will always allow for someone in the chain to add fillers and additives on the cheap add a few spices and flavourings and the consumer is none the wiser.

Barney
