Regards 'enjoyment' i'm now on my 110th straight day at work on my Shopping Centre stall... No day off, no lunch break, no helper...just me on my lonesome for 110 straight days.

In general i still enjoy it, i don't enjoy it when i'm not taking any money but the enjoyment of doing my own thing outweighs pretty much everything else.

I hope it's a long time and ultimately never, that i have to work for someone else again, i just wish i'd get sales through my website and Facebook page to add to the stall...i'd love to moan one day about being too busy...that would pretty much be a goal of mine!”

It will come mate. I so know the feeling of never having a day off, or lunch, or a break. I can really relate to that. Perseverance pays off - it really does. And tweaking stuff until it's all right.

I don't enjoy it when I don't take money either. Like today - there is nothing happening - there are no courses - nowt. So, No money is being earned. And perhaps I won't get a call this close to Christmas, so, no money is banked.

But, I'm here, and I'm by the phone, because that's the way we run stuff....

The way I keep sane, is I split my result down on paper to weekly, and monthly. Then I look for trends.

I never ever look at the day's figures. The mad thing is, is that the results on weekly and monthly are predictable, and after a while, you can then do stuff to alter the prediction. I.e., First Week in Jan is poop for turnover, so we stick a sale on, or a special offer. We hammer advertising directed at that week etc etc.

An no - never ever ever work for someone else ever again. To come this far says a lot about you. To just start a business is a success story in itself.

Website Sales is all about having the products people want, and being at the top of the search results I think. If you sell Sweets, and you come on Page 20000 for that, but, you hit #1 P1 for Haddock... you won't sell sweets.

I'm forever using this little tool: http://smallseotools.com/keyword-position/ to check my position, and then tweaking to make sure I am where I want to be.

One day you'll be rushed off your feet, I'm sure of it!

Wow Barney...

It certainly sounds busy there mate!

I was going to suggest AutoAttendants and virtual receptionists, but it looks like you've got that squared.

How about changing module slightly, and with all this incoming business having several competitors you get on with, and sub contract to them? (Or sell them the job).

Just thinking out loud. Getting Pounds, Shillings, and Pence is all that counts (Whilst keeping people happy!)

Currency Exchange 18th December 2014 8:48 PM

clearly, look at rates for lower amounts, but, if you're looking at higher values, it's negotiation time!

Speak to the banks, even open an account for the very purpose. HSBC I have found to be great for overseas business in Western and Eastern Europe, as well as a few countries in Africa.

Be mindful to the agencies related to detecting crime, and be prepared for some paperwork completion to say you're not laundering anything other than your socks!

Customer Service - Maplins Style 18th December 2014 8:45 PM

Maplins is quite relaxed I think - but surely not as bad as this?

I'd suggest it's a mix of seasonal workers, and bad management. The smoking area should be out of sight, round the back.

Whatever the reason, there is never an excuse for bad service. Ditto anything that damages a consumers view of the corporate image.

but I can tell you it's not healthy Its not fun either and I'm beginning to hate it rapidly ”

We'll, it's really good business is on the up - but - if I ever stopped enjoying what I did for more than 2 weeks in a row, I'd probably just sit under the desk.

How can you get the enjoyment back? Would P/T workers help?

I think what I liked about SDPromoparrot's reply is the PMA being shared - as is the case with all members here.

Thinking outside the box, and never letting a down moment go to waste is key. Collagenius, peaks and troughs! 2015 will be a great year!

Steve, yup. I hear ya. I think I need to get in the faces of the local authorities more. We work all time zones... ;-)

That's a great idea :-D

We do become more active in other areas of a charitable nature this time of year, mainly with the homeless, or those with no family.

But you're dead right, no activity is bad activity

Peaks and Troughs Peaks and Troughs....

This is business, but, for me, in the Adult Education (First Aid Courses) side of life, I despise holidays. Bah Humbug!

People totally switch off on the run up to Christmas, and it takes a while to recover just after.

Sure, we're running courses, where are competitors are not, but the student numbers are sure lower than normal, by around 40%. We're fortunate enough to plan for these annual events...

Other businesses also seem to take a knock each holiday period. Retail picks up for obvious reasons, and when they experience a trough, we experience our peak.

I've got a reputation in the town too... when the retailers are all miserable, I'm happily skipping to the bank, when they are doing better than normal, I'm kicking the curd.

So, yes, Bah Humbug to one and all. We're open even on Christmas Day this year. Ill be in the office with other folks who've got nowhere to go, and we'll all eat microwave meals and listen to Bucks Fizz.

Hows business for the rest of the world?

21 years old? A true veteran.

His 14 year old manager probably saw and heard your frustration through your webcam, and stuck the drivers back on their site for a day.

Tomorrow, he'll delete your O/S, right before sending you a flyer to buy a new PC...

Hmmm....

I bet HP have a new printer on the market that can do it... It's release probably coincided with with the withdrawal of the driver for yours!

Have you tried printing from another browser?

(Hear me out on this)

Perhaps it's something more Java / netty related...

Not too sure... again, there's some tech giggling into his gallon of soda and dortios at my thought process...
