It is okay if you trackback your visitors or related businessmen as long as you are not interfering in their personal matters...

Hi all.
What is your opinion about internet monitoring in company? Could employees see this as spying and can this cause unrest among them? I would like to track how much time is spent on different websites instead of work and that is the reason for this question. Is there probably a free software used to monitor internet activity?

In my opinion internet monitoring in a company depends on your approach. It is also depends on what software you will use. Under US law the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986, which was amended in 2001 that workplace electronic communications in the workplace can be intercepted and reviewed by employers. I found out that internet monitoring will become spying if you will not let your employees know that they are being monitor. See it for yourself here this can help you what is the right way of monitoring.

I hope this can help you monitor internet in your company.

In fact,I don't agree to monitor workers'internet. It is easy to be found and also your employees will think you don't believe them and not feel free.

As an employers point of view, I want to monitor my employees if they indeed are working. and are not wasting their time on doing stuffs that I didn't pay them to do.

I understand your concern and your need for monitoring your employees. As far as I'm informed, but I see some other forum members have even more accurate info on the matter, monitoring the employees' network activity is allowed as long as they are aware of it. I personally think it is fair to do it as well; as much as they think it is appropriate to use their working time for personal matters, you as the employer have the right to make sure they don't do that, as it is a way of procrastinating. I am using a very easy-to-use but effective free software called My Team Monitor. It takes screenshots of each employee's computers separately every 5 minutes, and it also records the number of keystrokes and mouse clicks they make and when, so you can track what they were doing, when, and how. You can learn more about the program and register for free at their website (if you google: myteammonitor, it will be among the top ranking websites with 'myteammonitor' in the url)

you could simply block some of the big sites like facebook, social media etc...

Brings up many interesting points of discussion. As an employer I could see the desire to monitor employees internet activity, however it should probably be clearly stated before hiring that this is going to be done.

But why monitor when you can totally prohibit surfing desired websites.

I think this is better and more common solution to this problem. The monitoring would be considered as spying by the employees.

And I think the most important thing is to trust to your employees/colleagues and may be proper motivation would be the answer...

Hello
I think that the internet monitoring is necessary. Because with the help of this we can remove the spamming content from our forum website

Hmmm, I'm not sure that would really help much. Most times people that do things like these would be encouraged to do so by the company they work for. (not all, before my head is chewed off ), I think maybe those that use their actual jobs to do this as a means of extra income, monitoring would be good for that reason.

Thanks,

I think it depends on what kind of business you are running. However, whether their job requires them to be online or not, it would still be best if you inform them of your plan to monitor their online activities.
