Hi Folks

For info, got a perfectly reasonable reply from EzineArticles about the non-appearance on Webmaster Tools of quite a few of my Resource Box links, ie

"all of the links are do follow and are working appropriately. You currently have 10 live articles on our site with links in each of the resource boxes.

In regards to the links failing to appear on Google Analytics, we can only control the articles that are on our site, not how the search engines respond to them."

In view of what sjr4x4's said, can only assume Google rates some of my poor little Resource Box links as not worth spending time on ..... Damn!
Thanks for those suggestions, I'll follow them up. Currently, I'm also exploring GoArticles.

With regard to EzineArticles, the owner's already been told by other subscribers they won't submit their stuff if they don't get the link juice they'd expected. I'd have though the owner wouldn't be prepared to take the risk of these subscribers doing just that - and telling the world what they'd done and why.
You're very wise.
Anyone thinking about going into business for themselves should have done all their market research and business planning beforehand.

A surprising number of us don't - I didn't, for example. There was an opportunity and I took it, thinking that if it all didn't work out I could go back into employment wiser and possibly more settled. Learning how to be self-employed after I'd set up my business cost me so much time and so many opportunities.

I'm assuming you feel you're suited to entrepreneurship and you've already drawn up a business plan and discussed it with your bank, business advisors etc?

It is easier to learn about the business of running your own company if the economic climate at the time is reasonably forgiving .... currently it isn't.

You need to ask how are other self-employed plumbers coping during this recession (eg are they doing emergency only jobs, have they got enough of these to keep busy and what's the recession doing to fee levels, slow payment and bad debts?). Forewarned is forearmed.

Good luck!
Thanks for reply, Steve.

I think I mean the links are "degraded" - but I'm not sure I've properly understood the term.

I'd better go the long way round and say exactly what happens, leaving you to work out what it all means!

Whenever I click on all the anchor text links in the EzineArticles Author's Area, the appropriate pages of my site come up.

Whenever I check the links to my site using Webmaster Tools, a large number of those EzineArticles links don't appear.

Using anchor text links wouldn't stop Webmaster Tools from being able to identify them, would it?

As far as I know, EzineArticles haven't changed their stance on DoFollow links.

I believe a change of policy was tentatively put forward some months ago and quickly dropped when many authors said if EzineArticles withdrew the DoFollow links they'd stop sending the directory any more articles.

Would appreciate any light you could shed on this .....
Another small point ....

Suggest MLFers writing articles for DoFollow ezine links on the EzineArticles site should check their Google Analytics results to see the links are actually productive.

I've just done this - and a very high proportion of my 20 anchor text links that should be reported by Google Analytics aren't.

The links were correctly placed and tested when the articles were written and subsequently when I discovered summat technical was wrong. Naturally, I've been in touch with EzineArticles support to ask their advice - they haven't yet had time to reply.

Would be interested to hear whether this problem is something any of you have experienced and whether you've found out what caused it.

Sorry, don't really understand why the prison couldn't be more flexible.

Dunno whose fault it was that the legal booking hadn't been confirmed but surely the prisoner hadn't any commitments more important than seeing you and the prison must have some spare administrative accommodation?

Have to confess I'd have got really tetchy if it were me not being allowed to do my job for no good reason.

So sorry to hear your news Tomsk.

This is an "off the cuff" response from someone who's only had to claim for a car write-off and who was helped then by a cousin working in the insurance sector.

In the circumstances (break in, police crime no and investigation, etc), I don't think you'll have any difficulty in getting your insurers to pay up properly and promptly.

Your problems, I feel, are more likely to centre on working out what your policy actually means and can pay for; being aware of everything that's gone; valuing everything you've lost (eg have you retained back-ups for the software you were developing or has that gone with your computers?); and haggling over terms for future insurance. So much of this info is stuff that only you and your family know, I'm not sure how much help a third party could be.

Heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.
