I can only echo Steves advice above - when i spoke to the Council about my issue they turned out to be very helpful offering lots of advice about what i could do to sort the problem.

Personally I would ring them sooner rather than later and a start a dialogue, from this you can understand what it is they are asking of you and the implications behind it and set a plan of action to resolve the problem and get the necessary permissions in place as soon as.

As to the Council reading this, unlikely but anything is possible and like you have said all you have done is ask the Forum for some advice - nothing illegal at all in that.

Good luck & keep us posted.

Im guessing here 'coz ive never looked in to it personally but do you need permission to run that kind of business at home? Do you need planning permission to turn a residential room in to business use?

Re Insurance it was just an advisory comment - again i presume you have Liability cover but your home insurers need to be aware of the fact you are running a business from home too, its disclosure of a material fact. Im no longer in the Insurance industry, but there are members on here that can advise you further.

Hope you get it all sorted

I know exactly how you feel - had the Council out recently taking fotos of my house & newly dug out drive!

In short ive been shopped by nosey council dwelling neighbours who have got nothing better than to run up our Council Tax Bill by wasting their time!thumbsdown I have a piece of land to the side of my house and as my main car has been BADLY scratched whilst parked in the "communal" parking bays i decided to dig a drive out on MY land for my 2nd car (my beloved MG)

Yes i have to cross the pavement to get to it, like any normal drive but the Council have been out taking fotos of it, claiming allsorts - im left fuming & speechless at how low some people get. I try and take a car off the Highway & its still not right - grrrrrr Only good thing is the Council have given me a way forward and was very understanding of my rant at him about the whole affair, ending up giving me some sound advice!!!

Anyway, was going to suggest you rang up to find out what had gone on - i assume you have got the relevant insurance to run the business from home & your House Insurers are aware too, as it does impact on theft cover. As to anything else i can only assume someone may have parked across a neighbours drive or maybe noise issue or something?

What have the Council said about the work from home issue? What options have they given you?

Hi Paul

No worries re the link, although im not sure if it applies in this instance.

Personally and I take no responsibility here lol, but if i was in the same situation, i would cancel the DD and tell them that as there is no signed contract im walking away and amounts paid already will cover them for the time they have so far spent on the project.

No doubt they will come back and threaten you for balance of payment but as there is no agreement signed im not sure what they can do about it. Id tell them that they have at no time told you that you were entering into an agreement and as such had you known you would not have agreed to it.

Im guessing again they will demand payment to which i would refuse. It depends on the amount that you owe as to if they pursue you but worst case you get a legal letter you can write back with your reasons of non payment and if it escalates to legal action you have an option to defend it in Court or simply pay up at that point.

Like i said i take no responsibility for your actions but would be happy to speak further about this.

Hi Paul

Found this link which maybe useful but from what i can gather it may not apply to advertising - Internet, mail order and telephone shopping : Directgov - Government, citizens and rights

Im not a legal expert but if there is no signed contract im not sure how they can hold you to it, unless they went through a verbal contract over the phone.

If there is failure to perform i'd advise them you are not happy & you wish to terminate the agreement and find out then what they are proposing.

Once you have this "proposal" come back and share and im sure between us all we can offer further advice.

The Sensitive Man

A woman meets a man in a bar.
They talk; they connect; they end up leaving together..

They get back to his place,
And as he shows her around his apartment.

She notices that one wall of his bedroom is
Completely filled with soft, sweet, cuddly teddy bears.

There are three shelves in the bedroom,
With hundreds and hundreds of cute,
Cuddly teddy bears carefully placed
In rows, covering the entire wall!

It was obvious that he had taken
Quite some time to lovingly arrange them
And she was immediately touched
By the amount of thought he had
Put into organizing the display.

There were small bears all along
The bottom shelf,
Medium-sized bears covering the
Length of the middle shelf,

And huge, enormous bears running
All the way along the top shelf.

She found it strange for an
Obviously masculine guy
To have such a large collection of
Teddy Bears,

She is quite impressed by his
Sensitive side.
But doesn't mention this to him.

They share a bottle of wine and
Continue talking and,After awhile, she finds herself
Thinking,

'Oh my God! Maybe, this guy
Could be the one!

Maybe he could be the future
Father of my children?'

She turns to him and kisses him
Lightly on the lips

He responds warmly
They continue to kiss, the passion builds,
And he romantically lifts her in
His arms and carries her into his bedroom

Where they rip off each other's
Clothes and make hot, steamy love.

She is so overwhelmed that she
Responds with more passion,

More creativity, more heat than she
Has ever known.

After an intense, explosive night
Of raw passion with this sensitive guy,

They are lying there together in
The afterglow.
The woman rolls over, gently
Strokes his chest and asks coyly,

'Well, how was it?'

The guy gently smiles at her,

Strokes her cheek,
Looks deeply into her eyes,

And says:

'Help yourself to any prize from the middle shelf'
I think there is a good argument in favour of accused/defendant anonymity if the alleged victim is taking advantage of this.

Yep totally agree!
Hopefully I'll never experience it, unless I'm actually convicted of something, then fair play, report away

Bearing in mind ive known Steve for nearly 30 years you'd think id have some dirt to sell, fortunately we are both squeaky clean
