Sent Items Email 18th July 2016 11:30 AM
I was keeping emails going back 10 years, including attachments.......

The sooner we can all scrap email the better

I've got emails going back further than 10 years!

I don't want to start off a discussion (on what really is a separate issue), but I've heard this thing about scrapping emails, and (I may regret saying this), but I think it's a total load of b*ll*x!

I cannot see emails EVER being scrapped.  Some people will use email, some won't, but in general, I seriously doubt emailing will ever disappear.

“....the writer used the number 2 instead of the word to.  It was fine until she referred to her 2-year-old daughter.  If it was confusing to me, imagine how the staff fared when reading it!  ”

Sounds like the writer may of still been stuck in twitter/phone texting mode!

The default nature of umpteen emails arriving through out the day was a standard moan

LOL, I must kind of be the odd-one-out then, because it doesn't bother me too much (I already receive regular emails from other forums).  The only thing that bothers me these days is spam emails, but I just hit the Del button with those.  Of course, it does depend on how busy a forum is!

I don't mean to appear rude, but I've got a feeling you may of contradicted yourself there?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if I 'voluntarily' subscribe to a forum, then doesn't that mean that I WILL receive an email, whenever a new thread is posted?  But you've just put "which should be  relatively straightforward"?  But what I've bolded above (which you wrote), well, the two statements seem to conflict with each other surely?

Unless we are talking about different things here, and don't realise it?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for that very comprehensive reply, however it was just this bit:

But we don't have an option to voluntarily subscribe to a forum or thread, that you haven't commented on, and that's an interesting point.

Wasn't interested in the threads bit, because once you've subcribed to a particular forum or subforum, then you should receive an email whenever a new "thread" is posted, which would be the whole point of signing up to a forum, would it not?

Anyway, thanks for that!

Not been on here for a while, but it would be useful (I've got this feeling you might have to upgrade the forum software to do it?) to be able to subscribe to a forum (or subforum), so whenever a new post is made (like this one maybe  ), then I can receive an email notification?

I subscribe to a number of forums and receive email notifications, and it's quite handy, because they act as a reminder that the forum is there (i.e. I don't forget about it).

I do receive emails from here (now and again), but they're usually sales pitches to make me pay for enhanced listing or whatever, so I can apparently achieve better results on Google.

Cheers!

hmm, so said company created a Facebook page which was in effect rented to you. Naughty
Yep, as well as distributing my details across hundreds of various business directories, apparently.
I broke away from the contract for a number of reasons, one of them being that I didn't agree with the contract itself... long story.

Why are you keen for your facebook page to be ranked on Google?
Why not?  Yes, I agree it's a separate social media platform, but surely it's extra exposure?

but I would have thought you would have more promotion and conversion control from your own website rather than promoting a social media platform?
True, you would think so anyway.   However, with respect, I feel that's hardly the point.  Why would you/do businesses bother with Fb pages in the first place?  To promote their business, yes?

Although I can't give you any examples, I believe I have come across business FB pages on Google.

Really, what i was trying to get at was the principle of how they actually did what they did,  but I guess I'm probably never going to know.

Facebook Help - If You Can 3rd July 2015 12:09 PM

This is really for someone who is perhaps knowledgable on the inner workings of FB.

I currently have a FB page, which I access by logging into my personal page first (and always have done).  Now, I fairly recently had a new FB page done by a well known paper directory company, that have now gone into the digital marketing side of things.  That wasn't the only thing they did for me.  Anyway, the FB page they created for me, I could find straightaway by typing my company name + facebook into google, and it was the first result.

Since then, I have cut ties with the above mentioned company, and my page has gone.

My issue is that my own original FB business page, doesn't seem to be visible at all on google, no matter what you type.  So, how did they manage to create a page visible on google, but I can't.  Something I've missed?

Just to add to that, I can't remember if my own FB page has ever been visible or not.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Microsoft Tech Support Scams 15th June 2015 12:47 PM

"to the point he got frustrated and handed me over to a colleague."
Yep, that's happened to me.

It's just the same stuff over and over again.

Reminds me actually, I once had a call (might of been couple of years ago maybe), where I had the scam call (indian voice, the usual), then moments after that, I received a call from a very well spoken man (sounded American), said he was from the Microsoft Fraud Dept or something similar, who asked me if I'd just been speaking to a scam caller.  Can't remember the exactly details of the call, but I might of gone into some detail.  The line then went dead whilst I was saying something.  Never head from him again.  Now that was funny!
