Are you in the Cloud! 28th July 2017 10:22 PM

Just read this: https://biztechmagazine.com/article/2017/01/2017-technology-trends-small-business?utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=social&utm_content=Oktopost-linkedin&utm_campaign=Oktopost-2017-07+General+Campaign

Cloud Computing Becomes the Norm

According to IDC’s 2016 “State of the SMB Cloud” report, in the last five years SMB cloud adoption nationwide has gone from under 20 percent of firms to more than 70 percent for small companies (fewer than 100 employees) and more than 90 percent for midmarket firms (100-999 employees).

What’s driving adoption? According to IDC, some factors include a desire for cloud storage services, including cloud-based back-up and archiving; the continued presence of employee-owned mobile devices; and the adoption of mobile email and basic collaborative apps like Microsoft Office 365.

As SMBs get more comfortable with putting their data in the public cloud (or choose to adopt hybrid cloud solutions), they will likely keep adopting more cloud services. According to the online IT community Spiceworks, IT professionals expect to deploy a slightly larger number of cloud-based services in 2017, and 38 percent of IT pros consider it very or extremely important to their current business practices (compared to 29 percent last year). Email hosting, online backup and recovery, web hosting and productivity solutions are expected to be the top cloud services in 2017, according to Spiceworks.

I'm amazed if this is correct!

Why would a small business's want to risk totally working in the cloud?

Its a family connection, Chris is a member of the team.

https://chuffed.org/project/yesbus

The good news is it has raised £11,270 of the target £48,000

We’re creating the YesBus - an extraordinary hub of positivity where ideas will come to life in a unique countryside setting. So much more than a bus - we need your help to make the wheels go round!

The YesBus is designed to be an all singing, all dancing, uplifting co-working hub- a place to stimulate the creation of big or small ideas!  As well as this it will also be a haven in the beautiful British countryside, to give people a break from busy urban life, and introduce them to the awesomeness that stepping outside of your comfort zone and into nature has to offer. This journey is well under way now as you know, and the team have been working hard on so many different levels to make this dream a reality.

Now that we have shown our commitment to the cause, we are now asking for help to take it to the next level. So we’re launching a crowdfunding project  -MONDAY 5TH JUNE- for the bus, to raise funds to finish the building and renovation work, and to keep the bus running for its first year. It’s such an exciting project that sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming when I consider the potential!

So - the real point of this email - we’re looking for people to pledge to our campaign, to help us raise the money to get us off to a good start and hit the ground running!  We’re running the campaign with Chuffed, some ace folk who don’t take a penny in commission and we keep whatever we raise, even if we don’t hit our target  - which of course isn't going to happen!

Check out our Chuffed page here- https://chuffed.org/project/yesbus - where you can find out more and donate.

So if you’d be up for a pledge, even just a fiver, it would be hugely appreciated, by me and the whole YesBus team. Just think, you could be part of YesBus history!

We have a number of ways to save energy for your SPA.  We could undertake an manual energy audit, and report back to you where we suggest you can make the greatest savings. We can arrange to Measure your Energy, to monitor every aspect of where energy is used by the minute. The costs start at £500 plus a monthly data maintenance. Savings are often made by switching appliances off, with sensors etc or central control. We can suggest installing a  Magic Thermodynamic Box which will heat your hot water, for 365 days a year, or by installing solar panels and heat pumps and or led lighting. Installing insulation is another option to save energy. I would love to have a telephone conversation about the various options and see what is the best approach for you.

We can also save money by getting the very best deal on your energy from over 30 companies.

Arranging a Mortgage 22nd March 2017 5:33 PM

Here's 3 takeaways’  from John Edward for those that are looking for a mortgage.

1.   The Lender loaning the money will first do a credit check on the data you have provided to them either on an application form or submitted on line to them through their website. You can get a statutory credit report which shows your credit history. It contains public and private information recorded in your name and is available to authorised lenders that carry out a credit check through typically through either Experian or Equifax. The information in your £2 Statutory Credit Report is the same information that is shown on your Experian or Equifax Credit Report rather than spending more on a free trial.

http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/statutory-report.html

https://www.equifax.co.uk/Products/credit/statutory-report.html

2. The lender loaning the money can review your last 3 - 6 months bank statements and all regular expenditure you are making. Monthly spends to your gym, hairdressers or expensive mobile phone contracts could count against you, when it comes to calculating how affordable a mortgage might be for you and whether they will lend.

 3.  The lending company often gives you the option of paying the mortgage arrangement fee upfront or adding it to the loan. Read the small print before paying the fee when submitting the application, often this fee is non-refundable, so if the house purchase fails, you could be in danger of losing this £1000-£1500 fee!

Interesting on the news this morning, "Fracking could supply billions of barrels of oil". I don't pretend to understand the in-depth arguments, and nobody wants wide spread environmental damage.

But if there a such a substantial supply of energy, then I suspect ways and means will be found to get around the pitfalls and various arguments with a variety of technology, invention and politics.

Steve

From a personal point of view would you want them to Frack under your house? Fracking has a 40% government subsidy meaning this government will be wasting millions in revenues by lining the pockets of the American's  and our house of lords company directors. If it was a clean energy like the thermals in Iceland, then I have no problem in harnessing the worlds natural resources, however its a fossil fuel, and there is a great danger of polluting the water course, and worst still the waste pond on the ground often leaks.

Shale gas reserve is an estimate, is a finger in the air at the moment, It's strange the government has stopped land wind farms being built in future, which is the cheapest energy source at the moment, and continues lining the pockets of the big land owners in other ways.

Enjoy the bank holiday.

Press release: SHALE REPORT SIGNALS FRACKING THREAT TO SOUTH EAST

Thursday, May 22, 2014 - 23:26

https://www.foe.co.uk/resource/press_releases/shale-report-signals-fracking-threat-south-east_22052014

Reacting to reports on the forthcoming British Geological Survey study of reserves in the Weald Basin, Friends of the Earth’s South East Regional Campaigner, Brenda Pollack said:

“These latest estimates will set alarm bells ringing across the South East of England where fracking firms seem intent on punching holes in some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside in the search for profits.

“No wonder the Government waited until after the elections to make this announcement as Lord Howell recently warned that fracking will cost the Tories thousands of votes in their heartlands.

“Shale oil and gas are not the solution to the UK's energy challenges.

Rather than drilling for more dirty fossil fuels that will add to climate change, the Government should be backing renewable power and energy efficiency.”
