Lloyds bank perform PR stunt! 23rd February 2012 7:51 PM
I'm a well known cynic especially where the banks and the government are concerned, so I say it's simply to make it look as though something is being done about the PPI scandal. It will give the government something to point to, to show they are getting the banks under control.

Besides which, it is only a percentage of the bonus paid the the culprits. Tjhe rest has already been paid and can't be claimed back.
My personal opinion is that this points to a larger question.

Do we need the EU?

It was a good idea but like communism, it only seems to work on paper.

If Greece hadn't joined the EU would they be suffering the same problems?
There's a very useful post here

It gives some great info on SEO.
Fuel Price - USA versus UK 17th February 2012 12:24 PM
I found an interesting site while searching for a tax comparison. Entertainingly called bye bye blighty it does give a comparison of the price per litre for several countries.

Petrol Prices in Different Countries 2012

From what I can discover the tax in the usa is 18.4c per gallon, although individual states have the option to place an extra tax if they wish.

I'm not good at math so I'll leave it to someone else to work out the percentages.

As a serious petrol head this is a subject that's close to my heart.

I've had to sell my sports car in favour of using a diesel focus because I could no longer warrant the extra cost of fuel or road tax.

It would be interesting to discover what percentage the tax is on a gallon of petrol in the usa.
There's no pleasing some people.

They get 4 star treatment and still complain.

Sorry, I'll get my coat.
Cold Callers in Warmer Climates 17th February 2012 11:43 AM
Having been a salesman for many years I have done my fair share of cold calls.

It may be annoying at times, but the truth is it works.

Let's be honest we all need to sell our products and I have no problem with a company being proactive by calling me to offer their services.

However I do expect the caller to have respect for my time. The simple phrase 'is this a good time to call, or would you prefer I call you later', before they rush into their pitch, goes a long way to making me feel that respect.

Unfortunately the standard of training for most of the salespeople that call on me is pretty poor. I had one a few weeks ago who stopped half way through her pitch because she lost her place in the script.

Not her fault though. It's the fault of whoever sat her at the desk with a telephone and a written sales pitch.
This is a useful post. Thank you.

My T&C used to end

If the customer does not supply all information/content necessary for the completion of the site within 30 days of the date of order the balance will become due and customers will be invoiced.

But now includes

Any work which needs to be completed after this date may be subject to any price rises which have occurred during that period.

Although I haven't had this problem before, it doesn't hurt to be proactive.
You're very kind.

That was my first ever attempt at an animation and I must admit to being quite pleased with it, although my designer tells me it's a bit amateurish.

They can be real snobs, those designers.
There is a small amount of competition in my area of business so I first came up with a model that gave us a usp and, as much as possible, set us apart from the rest. Then I came up with several names that I considered were descriptive of what we do.

I chose the name from that list based on whether or not the domain name was available.
