Firstly it has to be a high quality video, which if possible contains similar keywords to already successful youtube videos, in the hope that you will ultimately be able to rank alongside them.

Once the first part is done it's really all about creating links and driving traffic to your video.

I think the best way would be to guest blog on high PR websites. However, it's a lot of work and very time-consuming.

Anything which builds traffic is going to be very helpful. A blog that no one reads might as well not exist. If you increase your Twitter followers, then tweet and social bookmark your high-quality content, writing a blog can be a great foundation for any online marketing campaign.
