Video CV's 18th January 2011 9:23 AM
I keep banging on about online reputation to my 17 year old niece who's online language is awful, and it will come back and haunt her one day, especially as she wants to get into the childcare industry.

My brother, who came out of school with great qualifications, even in English!, sends me emails like text messages. I re-write them and bounce them back to him, saying "Should read..."

Looking for a job - or trying to find a new employee? Then prepare for a technological revolution...Is this about to replace written CV's?

BBC News - Virtual job-hunting: Technology fills situations vacant

A search on YouTube shows plenty of examples of job-seekers promoting themselves on video.

And, beware, potential employers will be checking out your profile on social network sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook (and My Local Forums )

So wonder where Tescos sits... or have they cracked all groups? Value plus good stuff.

I think they must've done. The queues to get in their big stores are responsible for all the major traffic jams in the towns.
An Irish Ghost Story 12th January 2011 6:57 AM
John Bradford, a Dublin University student, was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very dark night and in the midst of a big storm.
The night was rolling on and no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly, he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped.
John, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got into the car and closed the door.... only to realize there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't on. The car started moving slowly. John looked at the road ahead and saw a curve approaching. Scared he started to pray, begging for his life. Then just before the car hit the curve, a hand appeared out of nowhere through the window, and turned the wheel. John, paralyzed with terror, watched as the hand came through the window, but never touched or harmed him.
Shortly thereafter, John saw the lights of a pub appear down the road, so, gathering strength, he jumped out of the car and ran to it. Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and started telling everybody about the horrible experience he had just had.
A silence enveloped the pub when everybody realized he was crying... and wasn't drunk.

Suddenly the door opened and two other people walked in from the dark and stormy night. They, like John, were also soaked and out of breath. Looking around, and seeing John Bradford sobbing at the bar, one said to the other....

Look Paddy....there's that idiot that got in the car while we were pushing it!!!!'
Good to hear that you're on the road to recovery, and that you've had lots of enquiries.

However, don't overdo it, take heed of the words of your moral to your story.
See what you've started, Steve.
It's pretty cool, and definitely worth the time developing, as nearly 50 pound to fill up a 1.2 is getting a tad silly now.

...And on top of that, daily congestion charge to park in a side-street that doesn't actually go anywhere, and is just off Tower Bridge Road which is NOT in the zone.
I was stuck behind one for a while in a massive traffic jam, and couldn't help wondering how long its charge would last.
This years flu virus is knocking everyone for six and seems to be hitting the respiratory system particularly hard .
My 19 yr old daughter recently spent a week in hospital on constant oxygen and nebuliser for low oxygen levels in her blood.
They initially thought she had a pulmonary embolism but eventually put it down to a chest infection.
4 courses of anti biotics and 3 weeks of high dose steroids and she is only just starting to show signs of improvement.

One of my key staff was taken into hospital over Christmas, and the story is identical to Trena's above. She is asthmatic, and is therefore hit a lot harder when she catches a chest infection. I'm not expecting to see her back for a good few weeks.

I must say all the above posts are very worrying. I have been so fortunate so far with my health, maybe 1 day off sick in over 30 years (I'm touching wood here), but you never know what's round the corner.

I wish you all a Healthy 2011.
