Doesn't life seem to get ever more complicated though? Offline CV's, online, now video's. I remember having to sift through CV's, scan reading them to short list, now you've got to sit and watch You Tube!

I keep banging on about online reputation to my 17 year old niece who's online language is awful, and it will come back and haunt her one day, especially as she wants to get into the childcare industry.

My brother, who came out of school with great qualifications, even in English!, sends me emails like text messages. I re-write them and bounce them back to him, saying "Should read..."

I don't think so it can replace written CV. You can use it as marketing tool on social network to inspire your visitors or potential employers to hire you.

I think it will depend on industry. The guy in the story was going for a marketing position so a practical demonstration of his marketing skills was more use than any number of qualifications listed on a paper CV. Even if he'd never actually worked in marketing and had no qualifications, demonstrating that level of imagination and competence would be enough to get him through to interview.

Hiring someone for, say, a firm of builders, would be a completely different scenario. No one will care how computer-confident a carpenter is or how many times a bricklayer says "erm," as long as they're experienced in the building trade, can show their current CSCS details, and provide a couple of references.

First impressions count, so if the recruiter doesn't like your face, voice, makeup, clothes. you may be out before you start.

In person at an interview you at least get to qualify yourself.

I think the written C.V. will stay.

lol wow! never heard of video CV's! good to know :P

Just wondering how much it would cost to produce a video CV for each target job market?????
