Qype!!!!!!!!!!!! Huh 17th July 2010 12:27 PM
slap me round the head if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, but have you got Google Analytics plumbed in? Then you can track any click throughs to your site. Free and pretty simple to use.

One way to track phone calls when listing on directories is to utilise another number, ie an 0844 number ghosted over yours. That way you can track in say 6 months how many calls came via the 0844.

Its something we do now on our directory if someones adamant its not working, but were sure it is, as theres nothing more frustrating when you know an advert has had xyz number of pageviews, so must have had some clicks or calls, but the customer will moan and say, nothing, never had a bean. At least now we can say, "well we know you had 25 phone calls, surely you converted one of them "

Just a thought. Glad you got things sorted out though.

Google analytics are there and give us the same figures so we know we are getting them, the problem we get is the niche market bit, people will only look at insulation when they are cold and only look at mould when they see it, and so this time of the year our advertising is more a case of telling the potential customers that we are here when you want us. The pest control side of the business is a different ball game altogether, we pay a company

Our figures are the numbers of real visitors to each site weekly as per the visitors counter on the site which is on display for all to see, also it is as per the figures i get from my hosting companies. QYPE only achieved 49 visits in the first month to the advert with them not follow throughs.
QYPE are NOT pushing any more vivitors to my domains (websites) according to the stats supplied by the hosting company as to where the visits come from, as far as my memory serves me i have had 2 fololow throughs to my site from QYPE.
so i will be pushing the freebies again, Hot frog has produced a fair number of jobs and reasonably priced work as well, and that was free, i wont go down the long list of advertisers i use, but!!!!!!!!!!!
i pay

It seems a bit expensive to me. I consider them to be similar to Yell (and Yell have a bad reputation at the moment). Yell have a more established name. Yell also seem cheaper. I am not knocking your decisions.

The main value I see from Yell and Qype is the value of links.

I advertised on Yell 3 years ago and did not get ROI.

What would be interesting is to see how many enquiries you got through the Qype site. Yell give you this number that allows you to monitor the volume of calls recieved through their site.

Final note, I am a bit cynical about refund promises from big companies like this. As long as there are not loads of small print, then it may be a good deal.

Yep i know what you mean, i was with Yell for ages and had very little work from them, i went to their free adverts and had no end of work, they also have just quoted me a higher price than this high price with Qype, i would not normally pay that sort of money out and so my expectations of them are high anyway.
I certainly wont be renewing with them cos i have had too much aggro in the first month. albeit it was a bit of a misunderstanding by both parties, but i am the layman here and i expect people and suppliers to do as they say they can do, especially when i pay for t.
As far as refunds go, the small print does state that i can get out after 6 months and i must admit that at this moment in time it will be put to the test, i know i am getting the figures with QYPE but to give an idea i had 49 visits to my QYPE business advert in the first month, and the following visitors to one of my own sites WEEKLY 286, 400, 399, 504, 443. and on my new site which is the one that QYPE are also advertising i had the following visits WEEKLY They only had 49 for the MONTH 123, 67, 185, 179, 129, 168, 143, so you see i am getting the visits in my own right but i wanted the commercial side of the business to take off more so which is where QYPE should have been going as per the original conversation with them.
Still we shall see.
i will keep you posted.
Also most of the better sites i have found on both my pest control and mould businesses have been the local sites and free sites they bring in a lot of local work and get me high on google.

Pleased to say that this afternoon i did get a call, but i was on a job, but i did ask for a call 30 minutes after so that i could be home, and i did get the call and we seem to be sorting things out and hopefully we get some work from the advert. we have offered discounts to QYPE readers of our site and taken the discount vouchers off of our websites and just left them on the paid advertising.
we are also advertising soon that we will be accepting card payments at no extra cost to our customers, hopefully that helps as well.
unfortunately most customers wont say that they saw us specifically other than googled, i dont think they actually look, as long as they get us they are happy, And so are we.ithas2bedone.co.uk

I recently had a discussion with a guy from QYPE i liked the ideas they have and decided to sign up, all was well till i had signed up, i had a few queries with them, nothing major but i emailed them 7 times in all, and still have not had a reply from any of them, i have phoned and was told that i would have a reply to my questions by close of play Monday just gone, it is now WEDNESDAY AND I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING even though i have left a message on their answerphone. i will be glad when 6 months is up and i will close the account, in the meantime i would NOT advise people to sign up. unless you know a good reason to sign up that is.

Cheers for the feedback, i looked at a kia today and thought how tacky some of the bits were, but that was a different kia to the one we are talking about. however as we are trying to sell both our properties, 1 in Burton that we let and the one in newhall that we live in we have decided to wait for the vehicle till we have sold both properties, then see what we have left in the pot, get rid of the wifes car and buy what we can afford or what takes the urge at the time.

Looking at shogun till i saw the road tax price, so at the moment we are looking at a feelander, who knows what we will end up with, its finding a gargage that has what we want, but her indoord likes what she likes and i aint going to argue especially if i get to play, who knows i might end up with an oldun to play in and wife can have a decent 4x4 so that i can tow it on a trailer. (the oldun that is)
