MY Local Services - SEO Challenge 19th November 2014 4:25 PM

Hello,

Steve has agreed to give me a chance to showcase my SEO methods using the MLS forum as a case study.

I will be targeting 30 related keywords to the forum, but 2 specific ones, these are:

“seo business forum” - Currently 16th

“UK business forum” - Currently 47th

My Aim is to half these numbers within the first 2-3 weeks and continue to rank for all 30 keywords but specifically focusing on these.

I will be posting updates every week.

Lets get to it

Tom.

Hmm, this sounds good... Could you give me a direct email Steve so we could talk about keywords/timescale etc.

Thanks

Tom.

How about the forum? I'm game on

We've actually been here before: The Forum SEO Challenge

Back in 2010 an SEO firm Innocent Advertising did a similar thing.

To be fair they (he) achieved pretty good results in quite a short time, in an age when creating lots of spammy articles, anchor text and multitudes of low value links was in vogue and worked very well.

This is back in the day when anyone could wake up one day and declare themselves an SEO, with no skill or professionalism required, just a Digital Point and Warrior Forum account

But the short termism approach was fundamentally flawed and I spent a few painful months disavowing and clearing up their mess when the forum was on it's old domain. Thanks Innocent for ducking those emails and burying your head

So in this modern age of Google Panda's, Penguins, Hummingbirds and Structured Data can modern SEO's actually deliver a viable long term strategy, that conforms to best practices and meets Googles TOS?

More importantly is fully auditable and accountable to the client, so any progress can be closely monitored.

Be quite an interesting challenge, be sure to generate plenty of publicity and if the results were positive within an agreed amount of time, I might even put my hand in my pocket

Looking to give an ongoing seo campaign to 2 businesses targeted to local areas only (any city in UK is fine.)

These would be 100% free but a link would be placed in the footer of the site, saying something like "SEO performed by and then a link to my site" and also feel free to recommend my services when you are ranked #1 for your keywords!

Also I would be using your business's information during the case study, so it would all be public, so there would need to be no problems with this.

This would be a full service, all from keyword research, seo audit, on page optimisation, local link building, Google maps listings and everything included to increase your rankings rapidly.

I would do a "quote" for you, but this is simply to help me establish what the ROI would have been at the end of the campaign.

I would be looking to rank you within 4 weeks, 6 weeks at most.

So if that is all okay I'm only taking on 2 and both have to be local!

I might also consider a national/brand case study in a few weeks time too.

Give me a PM if you fit this criteria and would like to take me up on this offer. Include your website, any current keywords and city/location.

Thanks
Tom.

Hi Claire,

What's the problem(s) itself? I'm guessing its on the pets site in your signature?

Let me know, I should be able to help you out.

Fresh input on the business.

Young fresh approach! Without any ties can do great things for businesses.

Don't like the ad, not enough models in lingerie.

But nowadays the only "target" for Christmas is kids, speaking to well everyone, we all get a bit sick of Christmas starting in October and I think it takes away from the excitement a bit.

As for specific industries based on Christmas marketing. My advice would be run solid ad campaigns, don't try and target broad keywords or get into competition with any big brands, as your budgets will just be irrelevant to them. Target the low hanging fruit for longer tail keywords. Also go social and go early, I know I said its really annoying that Christmas now starts in October, but as a result you have to start earlier.

Ecommerce sites themselves I would recommend looking into groupon/coupon style sites, but more important in a way would be places like: WOOT.com, http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/ and even amazon and ebay to an extent, just to get your product out there selling. Obviously look into deals and discounts.

Just my thoughts... Don't think SEO sells very well over the holiday period, although we get a nice little spike in January

.uk domains - will you move to one? 1st November 2014 11:42 PM
With automatic rights going to .co.uk owners it does make you wonder what is the point of the .uk as most decent names are already taken, so adding a new domain extension doesn't actually free up any more names? At least for the next couple of years.

Exactly, I was talking to a web designer friend who was ranting about all the new extensions saying they now have .painter .baker .rocks and all he wanted was .design and still nothing!!!!

I'm going to be gunning for some .wales domain names think they go live on the 3rd but trying to pre order or get a new TLD is some sort of puzzle in Chinese..... What is this meant to mean?

.uk domains - will you move to one? 30th October 2014 4:00 PM

I was looking to buy, seo.uk , marketing.uk all of them but then I found out that you can't register them until 2017 and if the sub domain people haven't already registered them, so I don't see why their was so much fuss over the .uk domain names as 99% of good ones can't be registered until 2017!!!

This annoyed me so much when I first found out, would have paid a few grand to get seo.uk or marketing.uk but they are just going to get sold to the owners of seo.co.uk and marketing.co.uk for £99.... Which is annoying!

Sorry for the rant but give the little guy a chance!

Haha: "bigger-than-forecast hole in its profits" --- If that's not understatement of the year I don't know what is!
