Had a young lad working with me last week during the half term holidays for some work experience, was a bit apprehensive about having him did it more as a favour for a mate that anything else. Have to say, he kind of changed my attitude completely by the third day. On the Friday, his last day I offered him an apprenticeship and gave him £50 for the week.... Its a funny old world

Thanks,
Barney

Has he agreed to the apprenticeship?”
Yes, and by offering him one he'll also get a college placement easier. Just a couple of rules he has to follow, no texting or playing with phone all day, no girlfriend / boyfriend problems to be brought into work, no talk of football or fishing and turn up on time. Other than that we'll get on fine On the plus side customers last week seem to have taken more of an interest in him and the business, so I can see a lot of benefits by taking a youngster on. Which to be honest I've tried to avoid doing in the past...

Thanks,
Barney

You're hired !! So a new Lord Sugar in the making? Does he get a £250k handout

On a serious note - what a refreshing change to hear about a teenager knuckling down and impressing you enough to take him on board.

Hope it works out

What a great story Barney, shame you can't try and get some local press coverage out of it. It's not often you get a hardworking youngster nowadays. My nephew will do as little as possible to get by and he's 24.

What will his apprenticeship be in?

Great outcome Barney. There are some hard working youngsters out there. Glad you were able to find one of them. Hope it works out well for both of you.

Don't forget the tartan paint.

It's a great story though,  the right young person can be a definite asset. Good for him and you!
