what kind of business you want to start, has a store offline or online?
what kind of products or service you want to sell or offer?
you should consider the source and the customer firstly, if you have both of them, you should pay more attention on your store, online or offline

Well firstly, plan, plan and plan some more!
Secondly, know that it's likely to take longer than you expect to get things off the ground (ie. don't expect to make a profit straight off the bat!)
Thirdly, you need to feel comfortable with uncertainty; I think one of the other members has mentioned being a 'risk-taker', that's certainly true. Running a business will have its ups and downs, and it's important to be ok with that.

To start a business, you really have to be passionate about your chosen field. Your passion will motivate and carry you through thick and thin. And obviously, research, research AND research.

I disagree with that. Sure, it's better to be passionate than not right. But to say you need to be passionate to start a business isn't true. There are plenty of business people, and plenty of markets out there, where passion isn't really part of the equation. (Especially the underground ones!)

Thanks,
Lion
