Has anyone heard anything about the tax specialists Powrie Appleby, based in Leicester? Calls to them are going to an answerphone and their homepage seems to have gone - although other pages of their website are still up.

I've been looking online and can't find any information apart from that they merged with Macintyre Hudson about 6 months ago. Anyone know if Macintyre Hudson have shut down Powrie Appleby? I guess I'll be moving elsewhere if so.

Any information would be a great help, I'm getting nothing online or by phone here!

not just me then! they were doing my tax return but now no-one is answering the phone (it's been like it all week). can't find out anything about it though. they are usually very good at getting back to me, but no response to my messages so far.

They've always been good with me in the past too - it's very strange, wouldn't have thought they'd just disappear like this with no warning or support for long-term clients.

I can only think it must be a Macintyre Hudson thing, that merger's all over the search results when I try and find anything out, but there's not much else to go on!

Hi guys - I know something about this 'cos my mates cousin works there (or rather, they did).

We were all out last night and it turns out that all of the tax team have been laid off. Not told anyone about it in advance and now locked the doors. I remember Macintyre hudson making a big deal about buying them at Easter and how they were tax specialists now etc etc, but funnily enough not much out there about shutting them down - sounds as though it was Macs rather than powries from what I heard. Seems a shame really, they were a good bunch (bit geeky but good to have on your quiz team). So there's no-one there to answer the phones. Hope this helps.

Looks like you're right - just found an article about it on Accountancy Age. Reading the comments, looks like they must have had this planned for a while, and they've only got one tax specialist at their remaining Leicester office!

(Tried to post a link but couldn't as I'm new to this forum!)
