The end of the Probation Service 10th January 2013 12:55 AM
Heard on LBC radio today, that if you are caught burgling a property there is only a 1 percent chance that you will be sent to prison, meaning a 99 percent chance you will get off with a community sentence of some kind. Not much of a deterrent is it? Those that end up with community sentences have no one to supervise them so the whole thing is pretty much a sham.
Personally I think they should bring back detention centers, borstals even approved schools. And for those that get sent to prison, take away all the luxuries and replace them with education and proper job training. And when their in court stop making excuses of their poor upbringing or time in a kids home being an excuse of why they've commited a crime.

If you drive around Westminster you'll see that the majority of tourists will be taking photos either with their ipads or camera phones. It is only the hardcore Japanese tourists who seem to love trawling the streets of London with 10 different telephoto lense bags swinging from their necks...
Child Benefit changes - fair or unfair? 8th January 2013 11:53 PM
Oh and while I'm thinking about it, all I've listened to on the radio today is about the married persons tax allowance. As the people that govern us seem to believe that it is far better for a child to be brought up within a married family lifestyle. Why should there be such a thing? I kept hearing arguements today that people who get married bring up children far better than those that do not get married, what utter rubbish. Many people nowadays decide to live together without the paperwork and manage to bring up a responsible law abiding family. A quarter of the population are now single and are happy to live that way, why should they be treated any differently? One in three marriages end in divorce, so will any tax benefits they've had for being married have to be paid back should they divorce? Same sex marriages are on the cards, will they be entitled to the same tax allowance? If not there will no doubt be forthcoming court cases, but it's impossible for them to have children biologically together, so this alone flips the whole thing on it's head....
Child Benefit changes - fair or unfair? 8th January 2013 11:31 PM
I'm all for vouchers, my only issues with them would be is (1) it would probably make the genuine people on benefits feel like third class citizens and years ago there were plenty of corner shops only to willing to trade milk tokens for cigarettes. You will also end up with a black market of people offering cash for less than the face value of any voucher.
I've been saying for over 10 or more years child benefit is wrong but then so are a lot of other benefits. Pensioners for example who have retired to a sunny climate are still allowed to claim for heating allowance even if they have a million or two stashed away. The thing is though children and pensioners always seems to be a sensitive subject to cover. When the welfare system was set up, it was set up to help those in living in poverty. Do we really still have poverty in this country? I'm not so sure, yes we have those who are out of work that find it tough to get by, but most will have state funded housing provided, 24hr health and dental care and a personal allowance given to them. 50 or 60 years ago none of this was available and people got by, and now people are dependent on benefits. Should someone earning an average wage in the UK be contributing to a household where the earnings exceed
The other half, imagines we're going to win the lottery and spends untold hours scouring the Rightmove website looking at multi million pound pads, she keeps showing me 10 bedroom mansions she fancies, with stables and untold acreage of land, lakes, gymnasiums and kitchens the size of our current back garden all with Aga's.
The only problem is;
(1) There's only 2 of us
(2) She hates cleaning
(3) If she got on a horse, chances are the RSPCA would visit
(4) She hates gardening
(5) She hates fishing
(6) The last time she was fit, we were both in our teens
(7) I tend to eat out a lot

So I would say, knowledge is better than imagination....

Business Fail 5th January 2013 1:40 AM
I think, or at least from my point of view the easiest way for a business to fail, is failing to delegate and getting the right people around you supporting you. I personally got to the stage where I was losing more customers even telling some of them where to go Because I found I was trying to spin too many plates myself and do everything myself. It took quite a while to realise, that I was gradually begining to hate the job, I was losing out on my social life, taking any kind of time out was virtually nil and in the end it became obvious that all I was doing was chasing my own tail. Trying to deal with marketing, the quotes, invoicing, telephones plus the work itself on your own became a complete nightmare for me. So I got half a dozen good people around me and thankfully I got out of this rut before it became too late. What also helped was believe it or not was the recession, I knew too many people whose workload had either slowed down or stopped completely, so rather than trying to plod on like a headless chicken, we joined forces and so far it's worked out Ok...
Google hammers exact match domain owners! 31st December 2012 12:32 AM
Personally I think most so called SEO consultants were no more wiser to Googles updates than the website owners themselves. As soon as Google changes something or updates something, all these great so called SEO consultants log into the SEOMOZ website, then log onto Matt Cutts video blog, copy and paste that web page and put a link on their own sites, then start to comment and profess to know what they are talking about. all claiming to have such great knowledge about these updates, everyone mentions 'Panda' now as if they know what they are talking about. Most industrys know what is happening in the future, where their particular industry is heading, the changes that are going to take place etc. So called SEO consultants always seem to get caught on the hop, otherwise the websites they manage would have either been pre warned or the websites updated to cope with the changes, but I guess thats what happens with an unregulated and an unqualified industry
State of the Uk plumbing industry 30th December 2012 11:52 PM
Hi, as I said I do Ok as I cover central London, have contracts with one of the best letting high end agents in London. I also look after the plumbing / heating for a well known coffee house chain, but this takes me out of London and into the Home Counties and most of the time it is night work. Over the last couple of years we have also started to diversify into other forms of heating apart from gas and it has taken of quite nicely so much, that over the last couple of days, I've decided to seperate the business completely, set up a new Ltd company and purchase untold domain names. Hopefully everything will be up and running by the end of the month. My original comment was about the state of the UK plumbing industry (nationwide) it's different in London, I wouldn't expect a plumber, plasterer, bricky or even a roofer to be having continious work say in places like Plymouth or Burnley or Barry Island (just watched Gavin and Stacey) even if they are lucky enough to get work, they will be doing it at cut throat prices where they are trying to undercut their competitors.
In London the only reason people can not make a living is because they are lazy, this is why all migrants generally come here first, they don't jump on the first plane and head for Bristol International Airport it's always an airport close to London. In London you can find a job handing out leaflets, car washing, waiting, in fact you can find a job doing almost anything. The main reason people don't get work is because they put up an excuse of why not to take up a job. I have offered untold work to people for
