1 million pound at deflated share price could be worth a lot more when price rebounds... the current share price is just a fraction of what the governments paid for... so his bonus will double or triple when the government manages to breakeven...

although its still a pittance compared to his US counterparts
expensive bluffs, energy prices on their way up despite deepening recession
How not to use Google Adsense 21st January 2012 3:23 PM
if the ban is for life then suppose a lot of people out there simultaneously started to click on the ads they see on every adsense website, repeatedly until the websites lose their adsense account, eventually google will have banned all their adsense accounts?
Which Search Engine Do you Recommend? 21st January 2012 3:21 PM
altavista? is it still around?

Google sends by far the largest volume of traffic so making sure you have a high google ranking is a must
Talking websites 21st January 2012 3:20 PM
they dont affect search rankings... but they might put off some users... cuz usually people are not expecting them and it can be a bit of a shock/scare suddenly someone from somewhere starts talking...
that's a bold claim!

as long as google has to rely on some external factors that can be manipulated by webmasters, SEOers to compile their results, SEO will continue to exist

i dont really buy into the idea that data coming from social media or social networks can replace what a search engine currently does... what if I am looking for something never mentioned in my social networks? never mentioned even by any of my friends in my network?

what if I want to look for something and not be skewed by the gibberish that is constantly spewed out in my social network?

There will always be a need for a 'clean' and 'independent' search engine
Is this the end for Kodak? 21st January 2012 2:52 PM
over the last 15 years, their market cap went from $30bn to mere $150mn... ouch!

they never tried to innovate beyond cameras and that's the root of their problem... cameras have become phones or phones have become cameras, whichever way you want to look at it...
i guess it's like the idea behind freedom of speech, you can't really censor it and it is virtually impossible to control what people say in their own time, in their own space, to the people around them...

internet is kinda like that, it is a space for people to express themselves
suggestions for free web advertising? 17th January 2012 12:59 PM
There are many ways you can advertise online for free. SEO is just one way of maximising your exposure online.

In addition to spending effort on increasing your search engine traffic, you can also try the following online marketing methods:
1. free classifieds ads
2. free business directories
3. B2B and B2C business networks (depending on the type of business you are)
4. online marketplace, although you have to pay a commission, the exposure is free.. depending on your profit margin, you might not mind paying the commission if your product is sold
5. blog reviews - see if you can find blogs that specialise in product/service reviews, there are a lot of blogs devoted to reviews, if you can find some, try contacting the blogger and see if they might agree to feature you in a post
6. online press releases
7. social media - virtual word of mouth
Google rankings 17th January 2012 12:54 PM
Links are like virtual 'vote of confidence', search engines operate under the premise that a website must be good if lots of people are linking to (recommending) it. Follow this logic, the more links you have the higher up you will be on Google.

The quality of the link source matters even more. The logic is that a nobody's vote of confidence will not carry the same value as an endorsement from an industry expert. So if you can get links from well established websites related to your field, your ranking will climb more quickly.

Start with directory submission, it's easy and you can find lists of directories online. Once you've exhausted directories, you can try to find blogs related to your company/product/service and contact the blogger and see if they want to feature you in a post.

A couple of other things you should do regularly on a continuous basis is article submission and forum posting.
