Free SEO tools for websites 1st October 2013 10:02 AM
you can use raven tools for a month for free. it has limitations in the amount you can use in that first month, but its all there.

it can crawl the site and look for duplicates, missing tags, meta issues etc

you can also manage back-links with it and investigate the search terms that you want to target, and see where competitors are getting their backlinks from.
Google Web Designer 1st October 2013 9:56 AM
Just tried google web designer, and was curious as to what everybody else thinks of it?

i think it could be useful, and can make so me cool stuff, but i think i needs more documentation at the moment.
sheer anonymity. some people just don't like to be traceable at all.

i always think if somebody is going to that much trouble to track you, you have bigger problems
Apple or PC 1st October 2013 9:07 AM
due to the fact that they now share almost every main hardware component with PCs, there is very little hardware difference. in fact, lately there have been several macs that have had fairly shocking build quality.

they use the same CPUs, ram, basic motherboard components - even their previously exclusive efi bios system, has been used in the PC industry for the past few years (as u-efi). essentially, there isn't really any reason for them to cost so much, which leads me to my next point.

cost. macs are extremely expensive for their specification when comparing desktop computers, and very expensive for the spec at the notebook/laptop level.

there is the point of stability, but a properly maintained PC will be almost as reliable. the idea that macs are inherently more reliable is a myth, it is simply because they have VERY strict control over what can - and cannot- be installed into a mac, and this limits potential issues. if a PC has the correct drivers installed, is maintained properly, having good components and no PEBKAC errors, it should be fine (mine hasn't put a foot wrong in months).

a mac can break just as easily as a PC. one bad component like ram, or a hard drive, CPU or graphics chip can bring down he entire system, and due to their locked-down nature, are infinitely harder - and more expensive - to put right.
Chrome overtakes IE globally 30th September 2013 4:54 PM
IE isn't nearly as bad as it used to be if i'm honest.

IE 10 is pretty fast and smooth, and seems to consume less RAM than chrome, which can be a severe Ram hog. Only time i used safari (on windows, havent really used a mac) i removed it after 2 minutes. it was slow. very slow. firefox 4 (i think?) was pretty slow too. opera was a suprise. last version i used was 11 and that was pretty decent.

but on the whole, i prefer chrome most of all, regardless of its memory footprint.
Traditional or Wordpress 30th September 2013 4:44 PM
I don't have a lot of experience with WordPress, but have been using Drupal.

It is extremely flexible, and if you so desire, you can remove any obvious connections with the original system - such as "powered by Drupal".

there are also numerous reasons for using a CMS like WordPress or Drupal, especially when making websites for customers.

Security shouldn't be too much of an issue provided you have sufficiently complicated passwords set up, and have the file structure set up correctly.
Also, i don't know if WordPress has a similar thing, but Drupal has a module that can check your website's security before you make it live.

In the end though, if you can get what you want out of a basic HTML site, it should be faster and more reliable. The downside is less features.
