Viruses 26th November 2010 8:22 PM
Apart from the worry about whether "picking up something" will kill your computer (naturally this'll happen on a Sunday, just before you've finished a report that has to be ready for 9.00am Monday), do you want to feel personally responsible for infecting all your friends' / colleagues' / the world's computers??????

I used a freebie AV for a short while until it failed to pick up the first virus I was aware of - I now use Symantec and am paranoid about being up to date on scans, Windows updating and so on. My computers mystify me often enough without me having to worry about their health.

Best wishes, Linda

Very best wishes for Saturday, Linda
THANKS for the help sjr4x4, have contacted the company and am keeping fingers tightly crossed for helpful responses!

And now for a lovely evening going through the Planning Officer's report in depth, cross-referencing everything we need to raise!!!
Not business related and am stuck, so think this may be an appropriate section for the thread!!!

We have locally a Victorian bridge (strength never been tested, known to be in need of at least

Agreed - all the images on my site were commissioned originals by RachelCreative.

Agree about the attractiveness of these images - they're so good you're inclined to investigate the site further even if you've no actual need right now for Mary's services. They make the site particularly memorable - which must pay off in lots of added business.
Bad Debt and Serial Debtors 21st October 2010 10:27 PM
What type(s) of business are you in, plse? What are your terms of trade?

Over the years, we've been very fortunate in rarely suffering bad debts (touch wood, touch wood). Obviously, we make checks in advance but I think our good fortune has a lot to do with the type of business we're in and the fact I expect to be paid (by corporate clients too!) immediately the work's done.

If you're the kind of customer who doesn't intend to pay, you go elsewhere, where the payment terms are less demanding. If you take the approach I do, though, you may also lose good business along with the bad.

Sadly, I can't imagine any changes that would make bad debts less likely or easier to recover. Taking a case to court is inevitably a slow business (as well as an increasingly expensive one).

Any other victims of "Slamming"? 19th October 2010 3:31 PM
Dunno whether you've already done this ....

I'd try:-

- setting up an appointment with the local Citizens Advice Bureau (they're volunteers but well-trained and can be excellent). Sadly, it can be difficult to get an early appointment

- investigating whether there are any local solicitors with particular expertise in cases like this who offer a free initial session. It would probably do your confidence a lot of good to receive advice on the particular issues you need to watch for; and an assessment of the strength of your case. On the evidence you've given, the other party hasn't a leg to stand on - but it would be nice to have a professional confirm that for you.

I assume the "regulatory bodies" you've mentioned include the equivalent of OFCOM, etc?

Good luck - I do sympathise.

Good luck Fredmila.

Any point in turning the heat on them by reporting your experience to the media (Radio 4 consumer progs, regional newspaper, Which, etc?) and local Chamber of Commerce? After all, you'll already have collected up all the info you need to protest your innocence and counter-claim for costs. With luck, you may persuade the company to pay up immediately and halt the court case.
UK Economy to slow over the Winter 19th October 2010 11:50 AM
Expect we're in for a pretty miserable winter ...

This lot isn't as ideologically driven or as tough as Thatcher was, thank God, so they may switch course in the Spring. Hope so. What they're planning is butchery, not surgery, though they seem not to realise this.
