Job Hoppers Are Better Employees? 27th April 2010 2:09 PM
I see 2 years as a good test. Year 1, get to know the place and how everything works and understand what is needed to progress. Year 2, do what you need to do, get the money / promotion and move on.

Saying that I've been at the day job for 8 years now, having started on a 6 month contract.
I guess some of it will come down to how much you can actually put in there. If you go overboard nobody will buy a the company as it may go against their own company branding or supported charity.

I am sure that there will be people already plotting on how to legally get around the issue (asset strip and what not) so that they do not have to take on board a 100% of what is said in any agreements.

The strange looking quiet one at the back is here.
The blue ones for me.. Nick Clegg is doing OK, but IMO the party has no depth to it. Brown is on death row just eating his last meal

Have to admit after having a play on it for past few days it is a good platform. I sound surprised, but I'm not seeing as it is Kip.

If the numbers keep increasing I think Kip is onto a winner here. Already a few members from the US of A which is a good sign.
What can I do? 20th April 2010 7:43 PM
Any contract or emails etc. that state what you were paying the money for?

If so, send him a note saying that you require either your files or a refund with 7 days. You need to be firm with him now otherwise he will just take the pee.

You just got to keep going. Find little victories to make it all seem worthwhile. If things are quiet get yourself on some more forums and do some posts and responses. Spend a solid 30 minutes of 1 hour just posting and consider that a good victory as all of that is free marketing.

I have an offer this week to an exchange of services with a guy I spoke to 4 months ago on my of the forums. He came back to me out of the blue and said that he remembered the advice I gave him so wanted to talk about it.

Are you finding that you get business from Twitter, Facebook etc. I suppose you will given that you are in the web business. However, I wonder if it will help an IT Support Company like us concentrating in the London area.

Yeah, you will have a good chance... I got passed a referal today for some debt collection work. It may or may not turn into business (waiting to hear) but if a business that nobody likes to mention can get a mention you got every chance.

(Kip, thanks again for the swift follow up on that one this morning )
Never accept excuses at face value, it's the only way to get through to people that you don't like being lied to:

"Cheque has been sent"
- That's great, obviously we want to make sure that everything gets cleared as quickly as possible, so would you give me the cheque number so we can look out for it.
* Any hesitation means they did not send it!

"Will do a BACS transfer first thing in the morning"
- OK great, will you do it before 11:00? *await response* If you do it before 11AM and do a same day one it will be in my bank by the afternoon. I tell you what, I will phone YOU back in the morning to make sure it is done so I can alert my bank to look out for it.

"Director is not here at the moment"
- I assume he/she is working today? *await response* As I am sure you are aware that under the terms of the Companies Act a signatory must be available at all times I assume one will be available before the end of the day. If I do not hear from you by then I'll call YOU back then.

"Director / Signatory / Cat has just dropped dead"
- I'm really sorry to hear that. Obviously we want to HELP YOU in this situation. I assume the company has plans in place for this eventuality and you just need 24 hours to put this plans into place, afterall, you need to make sure someone is available to sign your next pay cheque. I will call you back tomorrow.

Don't let anyone get away with anything..... Polite but Direct. As many closed questions as possible so you can lead the conversation the direction you want it to go in.
