Keep calm and... 9th January 2015 4:04 PM

... no, I'm not going to use the cliche that everyone may be expecting! I've been in business for 18 years now and I used to beat myself up for all the mistakes I had made. Now I realise that these were all part of my training programme (there's a great IBM story about that, but that's for another day).

The message I'd like to convey here is what I seek to convey to all my clients in my work as a finance director, trainer and coach - pay attention to who you are being when the inevitable challenges come up, as they are going to. Or to put it another way, when something happens, take the time to respond rather than react. And learn from it...

How many hours a week do you work? 21st September 2014 4:54 PM

Some interesting thoughts here, thanks. I was reminded last week of the work of Napoleon Hill ('The Laws of Success' and 'Think and Grow Rich'), and his emphasis on working smarter not harder.

Perhaps it's a bit of a cliche, but it's really important. Michael E Gerber in 'The E-Myth' writes about working on your business as opposed to working in it. I personally have to remind myself of this in my daily work!

Thanks Steve, I totally agree. Recreation is also re-creation, vital to all of us who run our own businesses and need to be recharged! Jeremy
