Who will be next? 18th October 2016 3:21 PM

Jean Alexander at the grand age of 90.

Her performances as Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street as the long-suffering wife of Stan made it more watchable then.  Many will remember her "muriel" complete with flying ducks!  Her appearances in Last of the Summer Wine were poor in comparison....

Can anyone offer advice please? 18th October 2016 2:58 PM
You've got a "BIG and heavy" problem right there.. lol.. Sorry just trying to lighten up the situation..”

Thanks Gail, always ready for some humour!  Situation resolved (as in my previous post).....

How to market a niche service 18th October 2016 2:49 PM

About 50% of UK companies do not have travel policies or carry out risk assessments before employees travel, either in the UK or overseas.  Many are not aware of their Duty of Care obligations under the Corporate Manslaughter Act, thinking that websites such as FCO provide all the advice they will ever require.   Duty of Care means the provision and communication of guidelines to ensure employees are aware of company travel policy covering not only costs but also health, safety, cultural awareness/differences, medical requirements, insurance, evacuation, local customs, etc.

One of the services I offer is providing business travel security advice, including female specific and for travel to hostile areas.   This also includes formulation of a travel policy if required.  Some of the advice for business travellers can be used by leisure travellers too.

Given the above explanation of this service, under which category would you do a search to find out more?

Heathrow could get a 3rd runway 18th October 2016 1:32 PM

Apparently, the Cabinet discussed this issue for over an hour this morning.  BBC reporting that a decision will be made next week.

Had various UK governments not stuck their heads in the sand over Heathrow expansion, then the M25 tunnel could have been built with less impact than it will have now.   No foresight; same as runway extension at my local airport (Birmingham).  Diverted main road in a loop instead of sinking below runway.

Andy-C - do you use FR24?  Great site and you can zoom in to have look at airport layouts.  Development of the South terminal at Gatwick meant that the second runway could not be used.

John

Change.org is an online petition site.  Easy to use, I've signed a few on the site including saving the church at Biggin Hill and a local one to stop building on green belt land.

Not sure if this fits the o/p but along the vain of the reception comment, what about tattoos?

Would you employ someone and give them a customer facing role if they were covered in tattoos?

Being honest i am not sure i would want this type of thing on my reception desk.

Exactly!

I know of someone who is saving hard to have a tattoo on her ankle removed so that she can apply for a cabin crew job with a well-known middle-eastern airline.   The no visible tattoo rule also applies to those employees choosing to wear trousers.

Computer Updates 17th October 2016 1:34 PM

Learned something interesting over the weekend from a tech person.  Another way of stealing your identity is to hack into your computer, activate the camera and watch you type in username and password.  Suggestion was made to cover camera with blue tac.

Heathrow could get a 3rd runway 17th October 2016 1:30 PM

According to BBC report today, the decision will not be made tomorrow as the PM wants to obtain the views of more MPs.  There's a meeting next Tuesday of the committee responsible for making the decision, so it could be announced then.

There are reports that Zac Goldsmith will stand down if Heathrow expansion is chosen.  What will Boris do, who knows!

Anonymity during a Court Case 17th October 2016 1:23 PM
Trial by media and the public is not a fair trial, IMHO”

Well said Clive!

This was discussed on Sky News paper review this morning and they also referred to Ched Evans' acquittal.  A serving member of South Yorkshire Police tweeted that the press were to blame for the police investigations of Sir Cliff and other high profile personalities.  This horrified one of the guests who stated that the Police tipped off the media.

Unfortunately, there are people of all ages and both sexes who want their moment in the sun so lie about "encounters" with celebrities and sports personalities.  According to women's groups Ched Evans' acquittal has put their cause back 30 years.  Why? There are two sides to every story and we now know more about the "victim".  I believe that these groups have damaged themselves by airing their views before the true events had been revealed.

Yes there's been solid proof against Savile, Hall, Harris and Clifton; justice has prevailed.  Sir Cliff is suing; when he wins I hope he donates the damages award to charity.  What Mr Trump will do, who knows.....

Love cartoon Jan

Also love product, but spread very thinly.  Adds a zing to homemade sausage rolls; interesting layer between pastry and meat......
