Back to the o/p - as i have already said, in the "office" environment you cannot dictate to any employee what they wear, with the exception of uniforms. That opens up a different can of worms!

As the OP, glad we've had a friendly debate!

Yes, motor shows are well-known for having scantily clad ladies draping themselves across the cars.  However, at specialist shows you tend to get staff in business dress even if they have come from an agency.  Earlier this year, a temp in London shouted foul because she was asked to dress more appropriately for a reception assignment.  Having seen a picture of how she was dressed, I agreed with the company's stance.  I think recruitment agencies should find out the client's dress code and advise workers accordingly.

Now I've taken the lid off.....

What i don't understand in this whole debate is that Marmite is a by product of the beer industry, here in the good ol' UK.

Why is a UK produced product subject to price change due to the financial markets? Are we expected to subsidise our soon to be European neighbours product when the price differs in the EU Economy?”

Clive

It's not just the product but the container and label.  Heard a news report the other day when the same question was asked.  If UK cannot compete on packaging costs, then companies will look at other, cheaper, markets.

I've just been "done" in Asda.  I like their own brand granola cereal as it has a reasonable fat and sugar content .  First, they hadn't got my usual flavour.  Then I noticed the bag had shrunk.  This was confirmed when I got home and found the open bag was 750g but the new purchase was 500g and still £2!  Some of the supermarkets can't be trusted to offer value on their own brand.  I do like Aldi and Lidl for fruit and veg quality, but some of their other products leave a lot to be desired (my personal taste rather than the actual quality).

I play Asda at their own game.   If they raise a price then I won't buy the product until it's reduced again.  I'm not going to trek from one supermarket to another, life's too short, but I don't expect to be conned.  Methinks Brexit will be used as the excuse for lots of things.....

Computer Updates 12th October 2016 1:13 PM

Found and resolved another problem with recent W10 update.  I played a YouTube video with what I thought was the soundtrack for it.  Then opened another video with its soundtrack and had previous soundtrack playing over the top.  Resolved by switching something in settings from on to off.

Also, received an e-mail from Acxiom a few days ago.  Apparently they are acting on behalf of TV Licensing in persuading customers to switch from paper to e-mail licences.  Thought it was a good idea so clicked the relevant button.  Got a full screen message from Norton saying the site was dangerous and should not be accessed.  Tried to amend details through another button and got same message.  Looks like I'm staying with paper TV licence.....

Do you like being asked to leave a tip? 11th October 2016 1:24 PM

I blame our "American cousins" for the tipping culture.  Apparently everyone thinks they're now deserving of a tip, from the person who took your restaurant reservation to the hotel check-in staff.

I tip on different scales according to the type of eatery.  If it's a buffet then they get less than a table service place.  Then they only get a decent tip if I've received good service and they've shown a genuine interest in whether I'm enjoying the food.  Had lunch recently at a local farm cafe where you ordered and paid at the till but food/drink was waiter service.  Never thought about leaving a tip there, but then I didn't pay......

I don't tip the binmen, they get paid enough as it is and I pay council tax.  The postman, well I hardly see him and you don't always get the same one.  Hairdresser's junior no, but I do buy her a gift card at Christmas.   Taxi driver, if he's been polite then I'll usually add on £1 but if they take the "scenic route" then no tip!

Heathrow could get a 3rd runway 6th October 2016 12:34 PM

Yes, I read that one too.

It's about time they got moving as Heathrow is not a good first impression for anyone coming to the UK.  When they build the third runway I hope they upgrade the transport links too.  A rail link from Reading is long overdue.  My cousin who lives in Colnbrook is waiting for the large cheque for the compulsory purchase of his property, but looking at one plan he's going to be disappointed.  Whilst I can sympathise with those living in places like Hounslow, I think Heathrow is here to stay as UK plc doesn't have the money to build a "Boris Island".

I have great admiration for controllers and pilots who manage to navigate the very congested airspace and airport, but it's nothing compared with places like Atlanta.....

Steve

Thanks for your advice.  Your comments match those of third party assessment I looked at online.  Apparently, Defender is good at some things but not so good at others.  I did manage to switch off the Defender alerts yesterday.

I'll stick with Norton.  I don't renew at first notification, holding out for any "loyalty" offers.....

Computer Updates 5th October 2016 2:15 PM

My laptop was "taken over" last night (briefly) and this morning (nearly 3 hours!) by Microsoft to install some updates.  As a result it keeps telling me that my installed Norton is not compatible with the new updates and I need to use Windows Defender for Windows 10.

I've looked online for advice and it appears that Defender does not feature very highly in independent tests.  I've heard that Panda is very good.

Big question is should I stay with Norton when time comes to renew, or swap to Defender.  Any comments appreciated!!

I'm surprised no one has called on the services of good old Swampy to cause mayhem for the contractors....”

For anyone who is interested, Swampy is now 43, living in a commune in Wales with his partner and 3 children (some reports say 4).  He works for the Forestry Commission.  I'm surprised he hasn't appeared with the Plane Stupid lot.......

If you've got it flaunt it 5th October 2016 2:00 PM
I'm sorry, every time I hear the name Kardasian, I think of aliens in StarTrek”

Looks like we all feel the same way about these "non-celebs".  Mentioned her to my 11 year old niece a few weeks ago.  Got that "whatever" shrug that said so much.....

If you've got it flaunt it 4th October 2016 2:05 PM

Not surprised that Kim Kardasian has been the victim of a robbery.  She's not the only one guilty of flaunting their wealth on social media.  Didn't her security guard offer some advice to her.....

I'm already getting bored with this subject
