Facebook Help - If You Can 6th July 2015 11:32 AM
but I would have thought you would have more promotion and conversion control from your own website rather than promoting a social media platform?

True, you would think so anyway.   However, with respect, I feel that's hardly the point.  Why would you/do businesses bother with Fb pages in the first place?  To promote their business, yes?

Although I can't give you any examples, I believe I have come across business FB pages on Google.

Really, what i was trying to get at was the principle of how they actually did what they did,  but I guess I'm probably never going to know.”

Yup plenty of FB pages are indexed by the Google god, and I suppose in answer to your question it's going to be the same SEO strategy as you would employ for your own site, high quality links pointing at it etc. The firm in question will no doubt have a network of high value links that they just squirt at your FB page, which was why it was ranking.

People have mixed views about FB when it comes to business. Me personally I think its a useful platform and we've seen good leads, promotion and traffic come from it. But it's come from the facebook platform, not as a result of out FB page showing google.

I want FB traffic to end up on our site, and any Google traffic to end up on our site, not sent to FB. So from a marketing point of view, I would invest the time and energy marketing my site, rather than a social media platform. But in parallel use social media to market my business and send traffic and enquires back to my site.

Just my perception and how I do things, doesn't make me right, just passing on my 5 pence worth.

Yep it's been captured and costed. We've got some more pressing coding issues at the moment but this will be rolled out in the not too distant future, and before xmas

Odious Osborne strikes again 6th July 2015 11:18 AM

Afraid I disagree on this one

Warwickshire is a reasonably affluent County where house prices have rocketed over the years. The modest family house may well now end up falling into an inheritance tax bracket. If a family has worked hard all their lives and want to leave their property to their kids who may well be struggling to get in the property ladder, or afford a decent size hose for their own family, is it fair to hit them with a huge tax bill?

Politics aside, I'd sooner see a culture that rewarded and encouraged people to graft and do well, rather than punish and squeeze through taxation. This will translate into more jobs, more tax being paid, with more revenue generated for the treasury coffers. I think we are finally (but slowly) heading in the right direction, a more realistic and affordable welfare system, with a gradually changing mindset that it's not up to the country to carry you.

All parties historically are to blame for the current state of affairs we live in, but it's only as we approached bankruptcy, that peoples attitudes slowly changed and painful action had to happen. When 90% of families were entitled to some form of child benefit or tax credit (me included), then the system was well and truly broken.

Inheritance tax is a highly emotive subject, but a drop in the ocean money wise in the rebuilding of a genuine, fair and sustainable welfare system. Which should be the priority that is needed to protect and help the vulnerable, needy or those that just need a helping hand to get back on their feet. Unfortunately decades of mismanagement and welfare culture are going to be painful to rectify, and I think there is a lot more pain ahead before we can say goodbye to food banks.

Holy moly, I knew you liked cats Barney, but 10! I thought 3 was enough, though now all 3 croaked it with 2 years of each other from old age and cancer, the house is odd being cat free.

After always claiming to not be a cat person, I will confess to missing them and blarted like a school girl when each one got put down. No doubt there will be a trip to the rescue centre in the near future where we will end up taking home the most pathetic looking specimen(s)

No great surprise but I think they'll regret it in the years to come. I can't see how the ECB or IMF can justify any more loans, or how any more debt restructuring can take place, but no doubt negotiations will drag on for another 12 months.

Maybe when all of Europe has gone bust, we'll be left bartering in the Tescos car-park. Wonder how much bread some advertising will fetch

Graffiti 6th July 2015 9:59 AM

I think when it comes to graffiti, you'll never beat the graffiti/murals you used to see around Belfast and the Provence. At least you always knew if you were in a friendly or dodgy area by looking at the graffiti

hmm, so said company created a Facebook page which was in effect rented to you. Naughty

It depends on what your expectations are search wise. eg, we rank for the first 4 places if you type in "my local services facebook".

But in reality no is going to type that in, so its nothing more than vanity. Any other search will bring in actual site results rather than facebook. I'd be gutted if our FB page turned up above our website.

Why are you keen for your facebook page to be ranked on Google? Facebook is a separate platform with different exposure possibilities, obviously with a social bias, but I would have thought you would have more promotion and conversion control from your own website rather than promoting a social media platform?

I know what you mean. I used to lust over Princess Leia as a spotty youth, now she's nearly 60

Remember all the superb Sunday afternoon war films with a famous cast list as long as your arm. Watched the Battle of Britain, a Bridge too far recently, and my personal favourite, Kellys Heros.

All jam packed with genuine stars and screen greats, but most of whom are no longer with us, or are now very old people you rarely see

It does make you feel mortal... I was in a good mood till I wrote this...

Trade Shows - any advice or tips? 2nd July 2015 10:52 AM
did the Kimble really go down well? ;-)  )

Spectacularly well!

Originally looked at an iPad or iPad mini, but I got excused of being too extravagant  But as an icebreaker, it worked very well. People like to win things, and putting their business cards in a goldfish bowl started a conversation which is the name of the game.

Didn't learn from the NEC 10 year ago though and over ordered far too many pens! Still they will do for the next 5 events

Trade Shows - any advice or tips? 2nd July 2015 10:06 AM

Well we've just got back from our Tradeshow and seemed to go very well. Lots of possible leads, new contacts and conversations. Also good to catchup with familiar faces, customers and suppliers.

I don't think we will win any awards for stand design, but it did the job

But lots of free pens, sweets and a win a Kimble draw seemed to do the job. Certainly worked out a lot cheaper than some of the stuff we gave away in years gone by. But show seemed to go so well, we have already pre-booked for next years event, which is a bit closer to home at Telford.

Fauxpar of the conference, checked out of the Premier Inn (living the life!), but asked them to look after our suitcases, and we would collect them at 6, as the car was at the exhibition centre car park.

Packed up last night, loaded the car up and drove out of Bournemouth, when Clive looked at me as we headed up the M3, saying one word.. bags!

After some repeated profanity, and working out how much it would be to get Premier Inn to courier 2 suitcases, we turned round and headed back to Bournemouth and picked up our cases... pair of muppets

All part of the rich tapestry of life...
