I'm currently writing a few different pieces I'd like to get published, but I'm not sure how one would go about doing so. I've looked at teh websites of some reputable publishing companies, but very few welcome unknown authors without an agent. A lot of the other websites I've visited seemed a little fishy to me and a little "too good to be true".

I'm hoping someone might have some advice for an aspiring writer. Here's some pertinant information:

-I live in the US
-I write fiction (some about the paranormal, some realistic, and some "mysteries" of sorts)
-I have very little money to invest initially (in the neighborhood of 0)
-I would prefer to publish several pieces under a "nom de plume"
-I'm not looking to make the best seller's list, but I would like to make some money off of my work

Thanks!

I'm not too knowledgable in this area but have you thought about self-publishing? There's various sites that provide these services, such as createspace and Lulu.

The key to a lot of good book sales seems to be both marketing (inc. word of mouth) and good reviews. So I wish you well with your endeavours!

I'll personally be hanging on every word in this thread. My 'best-seller' is written, oh for sure it needs proof reading and restructuring but the 450 pages are done and dusted.
