hi

i am interested in buying a small domestic cleaning business but don't know what to offer? There is no assets and turnover is approx £75000 per year, minimum overheads with mums working on a per hour basis? Is there a formula for working out the goodwill? As all I am buying rely is the customer base in place already today?

Just be careful and take a good look.My sister in law did the same thing and it was hard hard work and often she had to go and work cos the cleaner were off sick etc , in the end she sold it as a bad deal

Thanks Andy C, do you know how your sister priced the business when she bought it?

Sorry no ,it was a few thousand though.

It does make it harder when you always having temp staff they can be unreliable..This is in no way trying to put you off ,just my family experience and you may end up doing very well

I think there are many different formulas to working out the right price.

I was involved in the buy out of another company with my previous employer and whilst i was not actually involved in the financials i did hear some of the negotiations.

It should be based on profit, not turnover and you pay a percentage of the profit over (in their case) a 2 year period.

You are probably better off talking this through with an accountant though as they will be better placed to help.
