We've been working on the development of a series of task management applications for personal and business users. I wanted to get some insight from the community to find out how people are generally managing their day to day work tasks and if anyone uses task managers on a daily basis?

I live and breathe by a "to do" list, and current weapon of choice is notepad!

Have tried outlook tasks, and other 3rd party apps, but always end up with notepad

I used a spreadsheet myself for many years and to be quite honest it did the trick for me as well. The general ability to write lists with with deadlines and dates can in effect be quite simple to manage and organise.

I think one of the most important features that defines a good task management is the accessibilty to your information.

With leading products now offering mobile desktop and online accessibility, your information is always at hand.

Good point, I use notepad for me, but for team stuff, can't beat Excel and a shared folder

You may want to take a look a our free online product, it's a full blown task management application and it's free. Lists can be shared between collegues and you always have access. We also have a free iphone app available from the apple store that will sync to the owners online account.

the site is called taskwise

I'm also a big fan of the notepad-on-the-desk method, and I tend to take an A4 paper notepad to meetings, too.

There's an app called CloudList that my other half and I had a play with for household stuff - we can both edit and check off the lists, it's good for things like shopping lists.

I'm working on a bigger project and that makes huge use of Google Docs, in particular the spreadsheets. I control the permissions for who can view it, who can view and edit it, etc. It's very useful if you're not all on the same network. I can also get at it on my phone, wherever I am. Well, almost. I can get at it as long as I have a mobile signal or wifi. That, for me, is the big kicker. It's so annoying. Something comes up, I think of a new task, I have a new piece of information to add to something else, and I'm all "aha, I will just whip out my phone and add that to my... oh."

So there's also a couple of virtual post-it notes on my phone that get edited on pretty much a daily basis, basically because while I *can* email or SMS them to other people, they don't *require* connectivity to just work within ten seconds.

Hi Mary

Thanks very much for the input.

I agree with Steve on this one. I have the PC, Laptop, iPhone, but for whatever reason, I have this little book I keep with me, it's my task list. It's simple and it works.

If you really want to use the technology, then Outlook/Exchange allows you to do plenty with tasks, such as delegate/assign etc.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that there are a lot of advantages to using Outlook as an email client but I believe that there is still a lot of work to be done on their task engine, I use outlook everyday as an an email solution, but the additional tools available in a dedicated task management application I have found come in very useful.

We'd love to get some feedback from people who are presently using notepad, excell or a note book and pen to manage their tasks. To see what they think of the free download. it's available at taskwise.com
