This made me chuckle, apart from stating the obvious, it seems common sense now has a buzz word, "Practical Intelligence"

...Practical intelligence, or common sense, is key to success in business, according to a new study that highlights the importance of hands-on experience and learning by doing.

Researchers from American University in Washington D.C. and the University of Maryland found that entrepreneurs who learn from experience and experiment have an edge over those who acquire knowledge through reading and observation.

"Entrepreneurs, especially during the early stages of their start-ups, have to think on their feet," said Professor Barbara Bird, of American University's Kogod School of Business...

If I had to read the word 'Practical Intelligence' again in that article, I think my head would explode.

I do agree with what she is saying, but come on..its common sense that says what she is saying surely?

You don't get a research grant for "common sense" though.

Whenever I see studies like this, my admiration is always divided.

Part of it is for the scientific process, the collecting and proper analysis of data to produce meaningful results. It is a brave step to write up the report so that people can see *exactly* how you arrived at your conclusions, and to take things from the man-in-the-pub world of "everybody knows" and "it stands to reason" and into the realm of empirically proven fact.

But the greater part is usually for the extreme persuasion and negotiating skills some researchers display in getting funding for this kind of research. I wish I was half that good at getting people to fork out.

"SHH... MY COMMON SENSE IS TINGLING"

Common sense, so rare it's a goddamn super power.

I would have thought that scientists would be the first of people to have 'practical intelligence', yet they had to go research this to find it out, good job.....

I would have thought that scientists would be the first of people to have 'practical intelligence'...

Ahh well, suppose it keeps the scientists off the streets...

Tomorrow they are researching "stating the obvious" but can't find a suitable buzz word...
