From the BBC

UK retail sales fell in November, according to official figures, despite analysts' predictions of a rise.

Sales were down 0.3% according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS). That compares with a rise of 0.6% in October.

The ONS blamed a sharp fall in sales at non-specialist retailers, including department stores.

The figures came as a surprise to many economists, who had hoped for consumer spending to fuel economic recovery.

With it saying non specialist, are we not looking at selective figures here? Stats being the ultimate moldable reference after all, just playing devils advocate here.

How have supermarkets that now stock everything have done better than last year, with Argos and some of the others offering fantastic credit crunch offers, I can see why specialists have dipped a bit, have to admit, we are a bit snobbish about some things, but I am still all for using a supermarket where a game is

Yes sorry.... this is all my fault!

I make up random figures for National Statistics (as I resent having to produce them!) ...the funny thing is, if I say sales went up, down or stayed neutral...that is what NS reports, I do wonder if I am the only person NS gets stats from....so it is all my fault!

I love stats, I just never trust them, a key word changes them completely, its all sales spin.

National Lottery used to advertise saying 25% of wins are a syndicate, start one today!

Sod that 75% keep it to them selves!

Stats are to be seen for what they are, not what the marketing or statition is trying to get across! IMO

I knew it was his fault!

Now me personally, I'd expect sales to be up, but profit to be down, as everyone discounts like crazy.

Stats are great though, I love 'em.
