Who thought of the idea for Argos in the first place, that's what I want to know.

a huge shop, where you can't see any of the items, then you have to pay for them with only a peice of paper to show for it, then you proceed to wait for any amount of time that they see fit.
that's not all! you get the item, take it home happy and find out 1 of 2 things; it's the wrong one/different from what was shown in the catalog or it simply does't work!

okay, maybe I'm bitter but still the whole idea sounds laughable!
Imagine pitching it in dragons den!
I'm definitely going to have to say on this one, unless theo wants to go in 99%.

... But the prices are very cheap!

The customer profile probably includes a huge percentage of one purchase consumers (the "never again" crew) plus enough loyal punters to keep the business going.

Very true, cheap indeed. Yeah the 'never again' crew, I'm one of those! Only after giving them a second chance though.

I've noticed, or at least on the technology front that they tend to offer discounted end of lines, so I suspect this is why they are so cheap. But there is definitely loyalty. When the Mother in law was pricing up a lappie, after giving her a rough spec, she found one at Argos. I pointed out she could have the exact same one from Amazon, for

and then you never used, and they always refund or replace without question, even when didn't have the receipt!

There is some of the problem - M&S moved away from that policy a few years ago.

To be fair the above is no differnet to online retail shopping and the consumer spend via e-commerce increases month on month!

They got something right all those years ago I'd say
