Hi to everyone,

My name is George and i am from Greece. I am establishing an export company for olive oil and i would like some information on how to enter the UK market.

I have heard from friends in London and Bristol that the price for extra virgin olive oil is very high (i am talking about the on-the-shelf price) so i decided to try and sell my product in the UK at lower prices.

I have tried to go through the official channels but there are already established companies that make it very hard for me. Could anyone let me know where i could find local (UK) importers in order to contact them directly? Is there a Chamber of Commerce that could give me such information?

Also do you know if there are any sites or forums where i could meet and talk with MBA graduates that are interested in entrepreneurship?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hi George

Suggest you contact the following for starters:-

The British Embassy - they've a wealth of information on the UK, its markets, existing suppliers, trading legislation etc. Explain what you want to do, then ask whether they've got any information and advice that would help you do it. Most - if not all - their expert advice, information and marketing data will be provided at no charge.

The Anglo - Greek Chamber of Commerce (it might have a different name). Bilateral Chambers of Commerce facilitate trading between the relevant two countries (eg Russia and UK, Spain and UK, etc).

Contact the Anglo-Greek Chamber, ask their advice and consider joining the Chamber if it seems sufficiently useful and lively.

Good luck!

The UK has a large Cypriot community, maybe you can get some contacts there are use them to break into the market. Try also the Universities in the larger cities maybe you could hire a couple of students to approach distributors etc.
