No wonder the UK is bankrupt! Good old Revenue and Customs have screwed up again, with 6 million people to receive tax rebates while another million will be told they owe more dosh. Yet another ropey UK goverment computer system that doesn't work properly...

"HMRC said the number of cases would reduce as the new system beds in."

"Last year, HMRC identified 4.3 million people due refunds for overpayments and some 1.4 million who owed the taxman after paying too little."

I'd say it's getting worse not better

Wonder how much will this latest balls up end up costing the tax payer!

Completely agree my husband spent an hour on the phone to them yesterday. He is both employed and self employed and they took it upon themselves to alter his tax code. Even though he said NO on the tax return as he cannot be certain how each year will pan out so doesnt want to risk underpaing tax they are a pain.

Did they buy the system from RBS?

Did they buy the system from RBS?

lol, honestly, the financial services in this country, from the bank to the taxman are beyond belief!

Just recently got dragged over the coals and my credit rating damaged by Abbey/Santander who inadvertently forgot to close a bank account, after confirming it had been sorted and was zero balanced, and decided 3 years later to slap payment charges on a mystery 70p overdraft, at a rate of
