So in the UK we are known for being a bit understated and more modest, so maybe it's time to take some notes from over the pond.

The American stereotype... sometimes I wonder how come they are so different than the British, having in mind the first to populate the continent were British )

Anyway the "Who is the best - I am the best" attitude is very good when approaching new clients or taking new challenges, in my opinion, of course .

...first to populate the continent were British )

erm I think the Native Indians may have a thing to say about that

But other than a similar language, the Yanks and Brits are poles apart, but I think there is a reason.

The second world war saw the collapse of colonial power and the end of the British Empire. Within 6 years, the UK went from being a (possibly the) leading global powerhouse, influencing policy, economics and military policy across the board, to becoming a war weary bankrupt country up to it's eyes in debt.

Military aid, done under the USA lend lease policy was done as a hard bargain, with a foot on the throat, which wasn't actually paid off until the 1980's (I think). But lend lease actually lifted the US out of economic depression, and made it into the power house it is today.

I think the effects of the war dragged on into our national psyche. Political and Business Leaders took too long to realise the Empire days were over, living in the past, with outdated views. Socialism took hold, fuelled by powerful unions, which stifled growth, entrepreneurial spirit and business risk. The welfare state gradually went from an admirable idea to shackling the population with debt and tearing down age old hard working values, and becoming the expensive monster it is now.

The USA had the opposite affect, the mainland untouched by the war, and they profited massively, both economically and politically. They went into the 1950s with growth, encouraging the American Dream optimism, and promoting innovation.

I think only now, in the last 10, 20 years we are starting to wake up and move to the American way of thinking. Anything is achievable.

I'm proud to be a Brit, confess to being a history buff, but it's time to move forward. I'm not sure if we're ready for awesome, but being optimistic is a good start
