Do we really have a recruitment company out there which genuinely care about us getting a job?  Help us find the job we want? Or these agencies are just focusing on their clients and running after them.

I came to this country with knowledge of marketing and finance 8 years ago for further studies. Once finished, I like many people do, got registered with endless recruitment companies. I didn't want a high profile job, just the one which pays my bill and get me experience in my career. I tried chasing them; calling them every two days and showing up to their door asking for feedback as to why I am not getting any interviews (I of course alongside doing my own job looking but the market was tough)

I understood we were heading towards recession and people were being laid off but that was no excuse for ignoring me and treating me like a pain. For most of the days I was like ' oh no, he is back again' and made to wait hours before anyone sees me.

I did manage to get myself a job, thanks to me applying for over 50 jobs a day. I even got letters from companies asking not to apply because I have already applied 4 times.

Which bring me to my next point; do we really have a recruitment company out there which genuinely care about us getting a job?  Help us find the job we want? Or these agencies are just focusing on their clients.

I didn’t have a very good experience in terms of recruitment companies because to me it seems like they don’t give a penny to if we get a job or not. As long as they have enough people on their database to show off to their clients, they are happy. Its like rat race. its not like its one agency its all of them, because believe me I registered myself to anything and everything available out there. Does anyone else has the same experience ? or was I just not good enough after all ?

Well I'll admit it's been a while since I used a recruitment company so things have (maybe??) changed since

But when I left the military in '99 and was starry eyed looking for IT work, the quality of recruitment agencies in the IT sector was shockingly bad. The impression I got was they were just trying to meet targets and fill quotas. I was repeatedly put forward for jobs I wasn't qualified for or had no experience in. A shiny new Microsoft certified techie going for Linux and Novell Server roles. I was very quickly eaten alive, and is a big knock to your confidence.

Years later when I was experienced and looking to jump ship, things didn't seem to have changed, and when I ended up receiving CV's as a line manager, the quality of candidates was terrible.

Even now I get an occasional emails telling me there is an ideal role for me, regardless of the fact they haven't seen a CV from me in 10 years . One agency I must have tried to unsubscribe from about 20 times until I picked the phone up and unprofessionally let them have a torrent of abuse  Didn't get any more emails though

My only other experience with the recruitment industry was a short lived business venture which seemed a good idea at the time, and was a CV generator, which gave you a word document, and then auto sent CV's over to providers like CV library. The business proved not to be financially viable, but it was interesting to see the sheer volume of poor quality CV's. ie people who couldn't be bothered to complete certain sections, communicate or articulate themselves in basic English.

It also highlighted I knew nothing about the recruitment industry

tell me about it. I used to go to the agencies with their own job advert and they used to tell me im not suitable for the job even though I matched the criteria perfectly, they never forwarded me to the company. which I found very annoying because I used to think either let the company decide who they think is qualified enough to get the job or make amendments to the description so people like me wont get excited to apply. total waste of time for both parties. They all should go for empathy courses.
