Still waiting

And your wait is over  - BBC News

Be quick though - looks like its just a weekend special but others are sure to follow suit.

So 10th December 2015 2:48 PM

Yep i had the same issue actually with the AA over its membership.

I didnt want to renew, didnt actually tell them that, yet my card (which i had changed to a different number) was still debited the following year due to auto re-subscription, which i wasn't actually aware of

Its a legalised con and yes the insurance company can levy cancellation charges if you don't realise in time

I go out of my way now to say i don't want my card details captured and ensure that auto renewal is not activated/authorised, but its a pain to get them to do that.

So 10th December 2015 11:38 AM

And so the year of Barney continues ......

I hate auto renewal, the biggest scam by Insurance companies since insurance was invented !!!

There was nothing wrong with the old system of writing to you 14 days prior to renewal and telling you that you have to do something or your policy will lapse and no cover in force. It worked for years until they cooked up this scam !!!

Auto renewal benefits only the insurance company as it makes people lazy and lethargic to change their policy.

You are under no obligation to use their approved garages but they will attach limitations to vehicle hire etc to that, all unfair IMHO.

Best of luck mate

Sounds like you are perfectly in charge of the situation but if you want any help or advice you know where i am

Vehicle Insurance 3rd December 2015 2:55 PM

This is everything thats wrong with UK Insurance !!!

Your insurers really should pay for the damage and loan you a hire vehicle and they recover these costs back. You could also recover reasonable expenses for any losses you incur as a result of your non fault claim.

Yes that means you pay the excess but as its non fault you will get that back in a few weeks.

Problem is now-a-days is you get ambulance chasers ringing you 24/7 encouraging you to put a claim in for PI when in reality you haven't sustained any injury but its so hard to prove you are likely to get paid out. Just 'coz everyone else is doing it most peoples attitude is its free money and why not?

Or, as in Barneys case above, costs of hire vehicles are over inflated and the other parties insurers end up footing a massive bill.

The losers in this actually are you and me, as we are paying extra money in their premiums due to this culture of ""free"" money from a non fault claim

THE HOGGING OF THE LANES ON MOTORWAYS 2nd December 2015 10:20 AM

I was in Central London a couple of weekends ago, scared my fiancee to death how some people drove.

I went nose to nose with a Bentley as he was trying to cut in to my lane - err i dont give way!

Keep safe Barney.

Oh Barney - between us, we should write a book !

Dont care how old/young they are - stick 'um in the stocks.

No doubt there will be a sob story told in Court, something along the lines of - on his 5th birthday he didnt get the fluffy bunny he wanted .......

Court will slap him on the wrist. It'd be a bloody stump if i was in power !
